I have a shower drain question

when you have a sink or a tub, there is a way for air to escape as water goes down the drain. what about for a stand up shower? there is nothing I've seen in any videos. Just dont want to leave out something important, but I understand all the plumbing going up the wall. This question just occurred to me as I am ready to start the shower. Thank you for any advice.

Yes. It's the "vent" part of the DWV plumbing. Do a search for "bathroom plumbing vent" or something similar and you'll find results. There are rules regarding vent pipe diameter, length, and how and where they connect.

One of the Biggest of Big Red Flags in buying a DIY remuddled home is a bath project where the homeowner did their own plumbing. Plumbing codes originate in the health codes. Which is why you need to hire an actual licensed professional to pull the permit and do the work.

You might want to also take a look at Zurn floor drains. My showers all have Zurn FD-2290-ST drains which are square, rather than round. They're commercial grade products, but I think the square shape works better with square floor tiles and provides a more architectural look. They're available in several sizes and finishes. as long as the shower base is set in a bed of morter or structolite and the drain pipe is secure so neither has a chance to move you will not have a problem with this type of connection

I have two of them and have never had problems...with anything. I have one that has the perforated holes, and another that is what's called a "tile-in" version: Complaints about the drain not draining fast enough may mean there is some problem with the drain pipe itself, not the drain, because the area of the drain holes or slots in a linear drain typically add up to a lot more than that of a standard drain. Someone who had rusting may have purchased a cheap, non-brandname item. When I was shopping for drains, I found a range of prices from about $100 to $600 for the same size drain. I settled on a mid-range price -- under $300 -- from a well-regarded company: Luxe drains The best prices I have found for this brand are, surprisingly, at HomeDepot.

Perhaps youll get lucky and create A custom vent in the process.

Are you thinking of the over flow that is on sinks and bathtubs? That's different from venting. All drains and toilets have to be vented to air so that the water will move freely. There are plumbing codes that dictate how that venting is done. I would advise you employ a professional for all electrical and plumbing.
