Does anyone here own a Ford Escape?
Comments (2)I don't, but the Physicians Assistant who works for me does. I'm pretty sure he hauled around a wheel chair for his mother. I'm off this week but I'm sure I'll talk to him (He's fresh out of school and has tons of questions!) so I'll ask him when I speak with him. On a side note, I have a patient who drives a little bitty Subaru Impreza and I know for fact that she hauls her husbands wheelchair in the back seat portion of their car. I've seen them put it in it! Thusly, I would assume that you could fit a standard wheelchair in just about anything. Justin...See MoreDoes anyone here make their own veggie burgers?
Comments (4)I think these ones I make taste a lot like burgers, even my carnivore DH likes them. I have used soy beans, chick peas or pearl barley (I think the barley ones come closest to "burgeriness" :-) 1 cup soy beans/chick peas/pearl barley finely diced vegetables (carrot, turnip, parsnip etc) to taste 1 cup rolled oats 1 large onion, finely diced 4-6 tablespoons soy sauce 1 egg small amount flour Cook beans until soft, drain and mash (if using barley don't mash). Add vegetables, onion, oats, soy sauce and egg and enough flour to make it stick together. Form patties and shallow fry....See MoreDoes anyone on here have a Cercis canadensis - Eastern Redbud Tree?
Comments (47)I live in the north shore of Massachusetts. I installed a Cercis Canadensis - Rising Sun Redbud last October - a 5 gallon container tree in a full sun area of my front yard - where there is decent drainage. Made it through the winter with no problems, and the tight lavender buds popped in April . The bark and branching is a light grey and it all appears to be healthy - all branches are still pliable. The tiny lime colored leaves that appeared after budding have now morphed into larger, darker leaves. Watering has been a consistent once / wk process, but we did have some pretty intense rainfall about a month ago. I began noticing slight drooping and wilting of the leaves right before the heavy rains we received. Since then, it has been dry and warm, and the leaves have gotten more wilted and curled. At the recommendation of one of our nursery managers, I tried soaking the root area. There has been no improvement, and the smaller leaves are now drying up. No spotting on the leaves or signs of leaf decay, and no insect issues.. If it weren't for the drooping and wilting of leaves, they'd look completely healthy. In other words, the color and structure of the leaves are fine. The Rising Sun Redbud is a relatively new cultivar, so not much to go on re. diseases, insect issues and tree care solutions... My first inclination was that the tree might be suffering from root rot or a root fungus - based on the wilting and curling of leaves. I checked the soil around the root ball, which is cool and moist, but not wet, and there is none of the distinct smell you commonly get with root rot... When soaking the root area, the water pooled then drained fairly quickly. If anyone has any information on the Rising Sun, this particular issue, and a possible solution please pass along.. Many thanks!...See MoreDoes anyone here grow the "Little Woody Redbud" tree?
Comments (28)We have a couple of dwarf redbuds. only been in the ground a couple years, so hard to give a full response. Of interest, locally, redbuds are nearly non existent in the area. Old timers refer to them as dead-buds, so there's something in this region, be it altitude, spring weather, winter wind, summer humidity...whatever. The spring of 2016 locally was brutal. Early warm weather followed by long lingering cool, damp, seasonally cold weather. local orchards were hard hit, certain crops locally were wiped put entirely (cherries, apricots, peaches, plums. only pears and apples had any harvest and they were down signigicantly). We have 5 redbud trres. Two recently planted dwarves, still under 3' tall, and two with trunks close to 6", ten to 12' overall size, and one weeping at about 5' tall. the larger trees and the weeper had very few flowers and took forever to leaf out...if you were impatient, you may well have yanked them. ultimately, they leafed out fine, so we'll see this coming spring. The smaller two looked happy as clams. they bloomed fully, leafed out as though there wasn't a single problem. Was this a size and protection thing? time may tell....See Morebananafan2
