Hosta K 2016
Comments (53)saija, the name does not mean it is expensive and hard to get :-) It is a sport of Hyacinthina, fairly common and sold for around 5 €...But I like it very much, the leaves have such a dark shimmering green when kept in shade...but it also can stand a lot of sun....See MoreHosta Gold 2016
Comments (33)Life interfering with my hosta postings... responding to teuth's interest in gold hostas that retain their beauty despite viridescence/lutescence, English Sunrise comes to my mind immediately for starters. Last spring I dug up and relocated ES. Photo taken early June. Photo a bit older (it's grown since this photo) as I had not taken bloom shot last year...this in July and ES exposed to direct sunlight from sunup to 1:30. Slugs don't bother it, ever and sunburn is unheard of! A beautiful, robust hosta. It is the "attempt" toward viridescence that makes this one interesting - ever so subtle a change in colour but so soft to the eyes. Yes, I do love it! Any gold with viridescent tendency in my garden remains almost entirely gold due to lengthy sun exposure as shade is at a premium in my garden. Another example is Fire Island. Growing in much sun Comparison of #2 growing in pot in dappled sunlight under a tree in backyard Quite a difference and another example of a fine looking hosta for all-season beauty....See MoreHosta NOID 2017
Comments (54)StevePa I checked out all the sports in the Loyalist, Pathfinder, Revolution family and found Woop Woop which is a Pathfinder sport. It looks like a possibility. Then I found some Whirlwind sports Cyclone & Oreo Cream. They are also in the running? Lee I checked out Royal Tiara and read that it is chartreuse & white but there are similarities . The pic you posted looks very much like the coloration of mine so I will continue to explore the sports. steve duggins I will explore that Apple Court avenue as well. My eyes were going buggy last night so I will continue today. Thanks all. sandyslopes I think because of the corrugation GE is a possible contender in the gene pool. It is most worthy seedling either way. It will be interesting to see its growth. Here is another shot of my NOID at the end of June with Gemstone & Curly Fries in front, Summer Squall & Choo Choo Train behind. All the plants are on their 3rd yr. This will hopefully help from a size perspective....See MoreNOID yellow Hosta.
Comments (6)I do recall buying August Moon a long time ago. Buy I thought it had a more textured leaf. But being in this little pot may have caused it to mature differently? I labeled absolutely everything with metal tags. My issue was a ginormous oak tree came down in a storm and a huge area around it came up with it. The hostas in that bed were all over the place and the tags were scattered or just gone. It was early spring so stuff was jus starting to emerge. So I probably only rescued about 25% of what was there. I wish I’d taken pics at the time. I was pulling plants out of the now vertical bed and tossing them in buckets lol....See More- 7 years agolast modified: 7 years ago
