Hi Dee your perle will be fine.How close do you have the Perle to the other clems? Perle d Azur gets to be a good size plant so the root ball will want too get huge.I always make sure the hole is well amended.the root ball is the most important part of your clem if the roots are happy the top of the plant is happy. you should not be killing a huldine.Huldine is one of the tougher clems.Always make sure you shade the roots so the sun is not baking on them.they love to be moist not water logged thats why soil is such a key part of growing these wonderful plants.Perle d Azur is one of those clematis that will need 7 too 10 years to get where you see something magnificent.I would just keep pruning the Perle and be sure to fertilize.Perle will come around.I think you should try another Huldine and prepare the perfect hole for it.I have a few picture's of my Perle posted on this forum
