What fun to see all these! Of the new introductions, I think the hybrid rugosa 'Wild Spice' rates a mention! I once had a hedge of Rosarie de l'Hay, one of my earliest to bloom, and it also had a glorious clove-spiked fragrance. Most rugosas share a unique quality to their scent. Glad to see 'Parole' on the list--a Kordes also sold as Buxom Beauty, a rose which leaped onto my wish list the first I heard of it!

I didn't know this! I often think it would be a cool project to have strings going from one rose to another showing parentage...or a bit easier and less crazy (LOL) would be to do a diagram. Carol

What a long wait it has been to see the flowers bloom again, and it will still be weeks or months for most of them to mature. The roses alone could be enough until pots of Black Knight scabiosa and Black Velvet nasturtium add contrast . My tiny garden isn't going to be what I imagined it would ; Earth Angel may not bloom much if at all it's first year, and I haven't gotten word if the Madame Anisette i ordered will be available, but with Bliss the garden will be nearer perfection than last year.

Hi, Stephanie. I live in Eastern TN on a hillside in the foothills of the Smoky Mtns. My soil type isn't unusual here: https://utcrops.com/soil/soil-fertility/soil-ph-and-liming/ but might be uncommon elsewhere. This probably tells you more than you wanted to know. I don't like the smell of paperwhites either but I don't think that's a myrrh fragrance. To me, it smells like someone using a perfumed aerosol spray to cover the smell of rotting meat. I wonder what pollinator it's trying to attract? On the other hand, some of the old-fashioned daffodills have a lovely (to me) fragrance. I grow a variety called Lent lilies here in the South. They look like a smaller, earlier, less spectacular version of modern trumpet daffs but are still lovely and smell nice.
