How deep is deep enough for a tub?
Comments (8)I "think" you need to frame. However, it doesn't need to necessarily be far outside the tub dimension. ie the edge of the tub can be sitting on the frame. the spec sheet can tell you how much. we built ours with a 2x6 frame in front of the tub to have room for the faucet. and we had grante extending a bit past that. If you're looking for a serious soaker, it is definatly a take no prisoners approach. Also, I'm not sure if I can say this enough, make sure your contractor knows what you're planning if you are planning on this... especially if it is a second floor install. this tub is seriously heavy, and huge. there is no way in my house we could have manouvered it into the bathroom if we didn't have a wall completely gone, and probably couldn't have gotten the thing up the stairs, we used a lift when their was no railings. I'm sure people have figured things out, but I guess my point is, it isn't a "standard" tub or install...See MoreUpgrading island Vent-a-Hood for new Miele cooktop
Comments (4)Thanks so much for the reply. I just measured and it's 33" from the grate to the bottom edge of the vent hood. Is that too high then? You mentioned UP to 30"? I am glad to hear that 48" wide should be more than enough, as this thing is already gigantic. Actually, i forgot to mention that DH had a Vent-A-Hood guy out last year (before we upgraded) to make sure it was working correctly and he said it was. Thus I don't think it's a mechanical issue, just underpowered. I have seen fumes go around the vent (meaning 1/3 goes up the vent and 1/3 goes toward the fridge and 1/3 toward our window). I will try calling Vent-A-hood tomorrow. Does anyone know if i go with a diffent company, do i have to replace the existing hood? I imagine it would be very pricey! Or do they only sell them in packages? I linked below the hood that i think we have (looks like this one) which claims to have 900 CFM equivalent. Thanks for any additional insight anyone can offer. I feel more confident getting advice here than from the vendors selling these things! Here is a link that might be useful: Our island hood by Vent-a-Hood...See MoreHelp! Need to fit 3 cm backsplash and 23" deep cooktop
Comments (7)Kudzu, that's good to know. I'll ask the fabricator tomorrow. If they can do that, that'd be ideal. Patty cakes, I hear you. The current house has a huge island (granite), countertops on three sides (granite) and the backsplash fortunately is travertine. The new house doesn't have an island, far less countertop area and a 42 inch sink and very low backsplash only on one side, all of which limits the total area the granite will be on. I wanted granite on the backsplash particularly on the center of the wall behind the cooktop because there is one spot in the stone that's as intriguing and beautiful as a painting. Just wanted to give that little piece a visible spot, mainly for my own private enjoyment as it will be the only vertical area. However, after much thought and thinking about the feedback from the kitchens forum, I think I'll go with tile for the backsplash. Thank you!...See MoreHelp! Dream house porch isn't so dreamy...
Comments (16)Continue the roof line onto the Gable of the garage - Mirror the front porch WITH same pillars design. EMBRACE the design YOU HAVE and work the plan. Go with stone steps in between each pillar to ground as opposed to skirt. On Garage Gable with farmers porch there too. wrap the front porch through to the gable garage with farmers porch - Pillars and all. A rendering would be interesting to see how this works. Hanging outdoor ceiling fans might work as well as pocket LED recessed down-lighting on porch. The porch now becomes the iconic theme for what is clearly a modern traditional almost center hall colonial... "With Stone Shoulders"! not so bad.. The opposite side of the garage Gable can mirror the same. Same with the back porch Farmers Roof to field stone pillars to deck to stone steps to ground (open-concept) no rails back deck to ground....See Moreeam44
