siding choices for home with active boys
Comments (12)Hollysprings, my husband was right in there with them causing that damage. Not delinquents, they know that our home is unusual in allowing that freedom. All Eagle Scouts and honor roll- one med student, one physics major at H. I think they are okay. Memories are more important than things. They have learned to replace glass and glaze in that window. I am sure they will be more careful if we have new siding. So no worries. Anyhow contractor 1 said the regular vinyl siding is easy to replace in the event of damage even just one strip at a time so we will go that route. Thanks for the suggestion of continuing trim down from the corner. Will do that just to make that section a unit and easier to repair in the future....See MoreNeed help with new James Hardie siding choices
Comments (13)Thank you groveraxle, these are really helfpul! Do you think it looks weird with only some shutters? I do but that's because it is just different to me. JudyG, I LOVE the white. Husband hates it. It's the one color he says absolutely not to. :( Not sure if it's worth pushing him on it. I will show him the pictures, because I think white looks the best. PPF - No I do not want trendy, I want something that will stand the test of time. I had not considered getting primed siding and painting it ourselves mostly because I think that would add significant cost and I think the pre-painted colors are supposed to hold up better. But it would certainly be easier to find a color I like....See MoreVinyl siding colour choices
Comments (3)On the Gentek website the Midnight Surf sample is shown in sequence with their other blue colors, so I think you are probably right in seeing it as blue. Windswept Smoke does look a little khaki or maybe greenish, although it seems to be in a sequence with neutral grays. If you haven’t already, you need to take the samples out in daylight and compare them to colors you aren’t changing. If you have a leftover shingle from your roof or can get a sample of it that would be one in particular to check. On my screen Hudson Slate looks like a neutral gray maybe leaning a little brown. You didn’t say which line of Gentek you’re getting, so I’m looking at Sequoia Select because it was at the top of the page. :) I know siding companies don’t always make all their lines in the same colors. Two bits of opinionated advice...feel free to ignore: 1. Gray and brown is a combination that is going to be hard to get right. You may have to go to more of a real color (dark green? rustic red?) to get something that will work with both your veranda and your roof. If you’re determined to have gray you should have your siding guy bring you all the gray chips, check them all against your roof and veranda, and then have him bring a whole board of your final selection to be sure. We did this last year when we had our house resided in dark navy and I was so glad we checked everything because the little chips inside the house never look quite like the whole house will look out in natural light. 2. Your house has simple attractive lines and a few Craftsman details will be a tasteful addition without making it look like you’re trying too hard. But there’s no good place for fake stone by the entryway and it won’t turn your nice classic farmhouse porch into a Craftsman porch. Plus it will add one more color element to coordinate with your siding....See Moresuggestions for roof color and siding choices
Comments (2)@Patricia Colwell, The stone and brick were formed out of a stucco like material. The stone section is coming off in huge sheets. I'm okay with painting over the brick look area but am unsure about what to do with the vertical trim around the windows. I'm thinking of painting it the same color of the brick. Do you think stucco or siding would look better on the portion that had the stone? Should we just paint the brick area or change the siding? The rear and sides are a vinyl lap siding the same color as the brick....See Morehousequester
