DIY apron front sink install - suggestions?
Comments (8)Like mentioned, sawzall (reciprocating saw) is not even in the running. They are best for demo work, not a finishing saw. Jigsaws come in an amazingly wide variety of performance, and I would not use a craftsman on anything where the edge matters, but I've been amazed at how the Bosch does, and I've seen the Festool and that one is truly amazing, but it has an amazing price too. And the blade makes a huge difference, expect to pay about $3-5 for a good blade. Don't cheap out on the blade - Bosch are good. I owe a Fien multi-tool, and I'm not sure that would be your best bet in this case. I'd be leaning towards a Japanese pull saw and do it very carefully by hand, but that won't work unless you have a straight edge. DH and I are profecient with all the tools mentioned, and still do a lot of practice cuts to make sure we're going to end up with what we want. And lots of times it takes more than one tool to get the perfect cut, don't try to get into a tight corner with a jig saw - finish up with a good pull hand saw. BTW- most hand saws at big box hardware stores are horrid for delicate work....See MoreCutting into sink cabinet for apron front sink
Comments (3)Make the lines where necessary. Use the jig saw to cut out most of the material, being careful to leave the lines. Hopefully the two lower corners are rounded, since making 90 degree corners weakens the material. Then, use a random orbit sander to sand to the lines. In the corners, use a round file, since no sanders can do corners. I have rotary wood rasps---think a rasp mounted in a drill to do corners. Also, a cheap jig saw is gonna cause more problems than it will convenience. Brands like Black and Decker/Ryobi/house brands saw crooked no matter how careful you are. The minimum I would use is a DeWalt---the best is a Bosch. Those start at $80 and $160 respectively. Borrow or rent one if you only need it for this one job....See MoreSingle vs double basin farmhouse sink
Comments (6)I have a single basin apron front sink and love it:) However, I would have preferred a low divide if I had been able to get the smaller side on the left due to the placement of my dishwasher on the right (opposite of Joe's pic above), but my sink did not come with the option to pick which side would be smaller in the uneven divide sink. If you get the low divide and also get the grills, the smaller side can work as an occasionally needed dish drainer....See MoreDouble basin front apron sink
Comments (4)I am not sure about your budget, but Julien has a white, double basin sink. Bowls dimensions L 21" × 15 3/4" × 10" R 11 1/4" × 15 3/4" × 10" Overall dimensions 35 3/4" × 19" × 11 1/2" Recommended cabinet 39" I also prefer a double basin sink for the way we work in the kitchen....See Morejhmarie
