Which living floor plan looks best (furniture setup)?

These are not exhaustive but the main idea of what we have thought about.

The room is ~16' x 13' but really 13' x 13' since the walkway between front door and entry way on right side is our foyer. The dotted lines are area rugs. The bottom wall has a bay window across most of it and the door on the bottom right. The left wall has a window centered along. The top wall has our entertainment center / TV. The chairs you see are fairly small 28" x 32" not normal sized armchairs.

We are leaning towards the sofa plus chaise [chaise on wall/window side] because it will allow for more comfortable lounging and with 2 chairs can get 6 people seated fairly comfortably without looking cluttered. The sofa + 2 chairs only seats 5 people. I'm realizing we maybe can fit another 2 chairs but not sure that is a good idea for such a small space?

Thanks! Just noticing the new link I added when editing the post to add some additional options removed those sofa + 4 chair options I had there. For those interested:

But it looks like that was your favorite. The right hand side just shows how the chairs can be position when watching a movie or something. But they would generally be facing each other normally.

I wasn't sure if 4 chairs maybe would be too much? My wife thinks so but you can still walk into the area (figure out ottoman / coffee table situation) and then take a seat. It would be about ~12-18 inches around the ottoman/coffee table and above 24"-30" between TV and the area rug.

Thank you Geokid, it looks great! The TV is something I haven't figured out what to do with, so I'm ignoring it. We watch it maybe once every 3 months, no kidding, so I'm not worried about it yet. I may put the tv on a wheeled cart so we can put it in the room when someone wants to watch it. The desk that used to be in my plans will now go somewhere else, too. It won't fit in the living room and still have the room look nice. The thing behind the sofa is a sofa table. I've never owned one. It is there only so I can put a lamp on it, instead of needing another end table. Everyone in my family reads a lot, so we need plenty of light. I think in the other thread it was you who suggested the runner, the armoire, and a bench in that area to the left of the front door. I simply replaced the bench with an upholstered ottoman so it could be used more than one way. I plan to buy Hancock and Moore or Bradington-Young sofas. If I buy fabric-covered chairs, they will be either Taylor-King or Jessica Charles. I think one of the chairs will be a power lift recliner by Hancock and Moore because my husband really needs one of these. We are going to a furniture store to check out recliners this weekend, to find out how long the back has to be from seat to top, since he is tall, and to make sure that a recliner would be best for his needs. It literally takes him 5 minutes to get up from our sofa, after having 4 strokes last year -- his gross motor skills aren't the greatest. Recliners take up a lot of room; I am cognizant of that. I don't know if one that will fit him (and that he'll like) will be so big that I'll have to figure on getting a sectional to seat 5, plus a recliner, and no other chairs. I am limited by the small size of the space and the max 30" front doorway (that is if I take the storm and front doors off). I have a 38" wide sofa in there now, and it was a bear to move in, so I will probably buy a 37" wide sofa. For lighting I plan to use table and floor lamps. Thank you for your help. Neither. Unable to tell which is the front entrance and/or what doorways in what rooms lead to what other rooms. Need full floor plan for that level. Not usually a fan of a large single sofa sectional in your second pic (they limit furniture placement and if any part gets stained, you have a lot of seating to replace. Also, few people actually like sitting for an extended time in a seat w/o arm rests. If, however, you're going to have that much open space -- no wall or pony wall to put furniture against -- you're going to need something as a room divider. Are you intending to separate your living/sitting space into two rooms -- one with the fireplace and the other for the tv? If so, then consider making either the living room or the family room a second room, separated from the kitchen, perhaps w/French doors or at least a room dividing cabinet or a penninsula. Design your layout, including a downstairs bath, in a way that gives you the option to use the separate space/room later as a formal dining room or, as your joints age and you don't want to climb stairs to your bedroom daily, perhaps as your downstairs master bedroom suite.

Sweetie, It could be a lot of things. You won't know until you open the curtains, let some light in, tidy up to the best of your ability...........and take some decent photos of the entire space. Better yet, would be to draw the space, add dimensions, doors, windows , openings, and dimensions for those as well. Based on what info you gave, it's "mystery meat"

Just a comment from someone living in a hipped roof house. It is very limiting if one wants to add solar panels (and in my case this is an old house that did not have the attic ventilated and there are no vertical faces to install vents in- it will be difficult without breaching the roof). I'm not sure of the advantage, guess for looks only? I suppose less wind-resistance and good plan for tornado country. Another observation about all the dormers and different facets, including valleys. In snow country, could cause problems as snow hangs up in the valleys. I suppose if money is no object (as in richy rich) you will always have someone around to respond to problems in the future. Last thing, I believe in simplicity, metal roofs, shedding water asap and guttering it away from the structure. Water will win the battle in the end.

I agree with your wife. That's a lot of furniture for a small space. Have you considered a sectional? Something like this

Maybe try using newspaper templates to make sure.

Well my wife doesn't want a true sectional and not sure I do either. The sofa / chaise is somewhat like a sectional and it should look nice and balanced in the center of the bay window (the one we want is actually nearly same size).

The furniture salesman suggested against the chair on the same side / in front of the chaise like we have in some of those examples. He said it could block view but we did test that out with dining chairs and if all turned to TV you will see the person to the side but they won't be blocking. I mean the chair there is effectively the same as what a sectional would be. Just not connected like one. Which is also nice because it should leave the window more open to the space.

But with your sectional suggestion and that picture... It alleviates one fear: will a sofa and chaise that size (106") feel too large and heavy spanning most of that wall?

I'm thinking it should be fine. It's only an extra 2 feet in width over normal 7 foot sofa.

The furniture salesman suggested the following:

1. Sofa and 2 chairs (no more than that). I know the other poster liked the 4 chairs but I do think it might be too much.

2. Sofa/chaise and 1 chair. That one chair would be similar to your picture in that it would be across from chaise section where there is more space.

Both options are similarly balanced. Both have 5 seats. The sofa + 2 chairs benefits in that 4 of those 5 have arm rests and only one is in a center seat. The sofa/chaise + 1 chair forces 2 people to center seats. However it also gives better laying/lounging opportunity.

For a 6th seat you could add a 3rd chair near the window on left in either scenario I guess. Not sure which is "better" in those examples.

Anyway I'm rambling. Just trying to weigh this out. It is tougher than I thought it would be. Thanks for replies!
