Miele Dishwasher owners: do you still use rinse aid with tabs?
Comments (11)No gel but all in one tabs are ok as long as the setting is on tab for a tab cycle. What I do (and I checked with them, they said ok) is to change off the tab setting and just still use a half-tab when I use express. I use the Miele tabs which are crumbly anyway and they work just fine. I've got some rinse aid in there so if a load gets a double dose of that I figure what the heck. The dishes come out clean and dry. I'm a bit of a dw nerd but not 2 kinds of detergent crazy. I get the Miele tabs from vacuum-express and almost never use a whole one so they go twice as far. I'm sure there's a more economical approach but 0 issues with anything since I switched to those and great results, so if it ain't broke.......See MoreMiele Coffee System follow on (L-O-N-G)
Comments (44)"claimed that it came with a manufacturers warranty" sellers can claim anything. it's called a manufacturer's warranty , and the contract is with the manufacturer - a third party cannot alter the contract without the manuf. written consent which will never happen. storm - let me try and clarify the winds for you. I don't think moja's problem quite meets the vote the free market I was/am talking about. He should not have bought a product from Miele in the first place. By telling people about this he brings the debate forward and can shape the market if he convinces enough people to to not buy Miele gear because they do this or that. Look at the aforementioned Maytag. They used to make superior washers, and no they don't really exist anymore. Enough people vote with their wallets by nit buying their washers because they turned to crap. Re: the Gaggenau / Miele fatherland thing. Gaggenau is highline- high quality - high price everywhere. Miele USA is really a different business than Miele Germany and what I'm saying is they have chosen to position themselves here as ONLY a high quality make. They don't import even half of their offerings to this market, and like I've mentioned to dodge before they are not simply putting a NA plug on their units, shipping them here and jacking up the price over the German/Euro markets. If a product is available both places the prices are very similar after currency variables are considered. Miele simply doesn't offer mid to entry products here. Because they offer a more broad range in Europe their rep. is slightly lower simply because of exclusivity. Benz does the same thing here. You couldn't get a SMART here until they figured out how to distance that brand from MBenz so as not to dilute the mark. They did the same thing with their vans via Freightliner and Dodge. I take exception at your assertion that I bow to the marketing chants or the winds of corp. top floors. I make no bones about being a Miele fan. But I also rec. lots of other makes. It's all dependent on the customer's need/wants. What I really have a problem with is what's moja's complaining about: I tried to save a few bucks by not buying through an authorized distribution channel and now the manuf. won't help me free of charge. The (my) problem is not that he's complaining per se, but that he seems to feel he has no responsibility in this and that it's totally Miele's fault because they are bad or that the system is bad because big government has allowed companies to set prices for their own products and say where they are sold by upholding a decades old practice. My problem with him over the health care thing is his math. Sure an office visit for the flu is cheaper in Canada than walking into the ER here in the USA. No one will rally debate this. ER's are set up for trauma and critical care and that care is very expensive to deliver. My tummy hurts or I have a cough don't really qualify but the public doesn't really feel like waiting because they are soft and or lazy. I saw it in the UK as I worked in an ER for 8 months. Care was no cost out of pocket and people would still come to the ER for sore knees, headaches, whatever instead of making an appointment with their family doctor which was also no cost, simply because they's have to wait several weeks to see him. They wait at the ER too sometimes a whole day while serious stuff like guys that got shot with a nail gun, or wrecked a motorcycle, or broke they arm playing soccer were attended to. Anyway the overall total cost of socialized system is more than a private one and the numbers bear that out. Oh and the CDC doesn't really keep that info, or didn't . It's not in their pervue. If they do now, please point me to the hard data....See MoreWhy I went with the Miele (coffee system) Caution: LONG
Comments (13)The Fagor never made it onto my radar screen, but it looks like it might be the same as the Ariston, the one I wasn't able to see in person. Honestly, at the prices we are talking about, I cannot see spending so much money for a manual steamer wand machine when for a little more you can get the Miele with the automatic foam and hot milk system. But since you asked, after 6 months I am getting a little annoyed with the Miele. Though we love the beverages and the convenience, I am getting a nagging S2 fault intermittently that requires me to get up and cycle the front door interlock to get it to shut up. I called Miele and they will only send someone out to fix it on my dime. No warranty at all. Why? Because I bought the machine on ebay. The seller was a Miele dealer in New York, but Miele won't honor the new machine warranty. Personally, I think Miele, as a corporation, sucks. I will buy a set of service documents on the black market and fix it myself I guess. To answer mhjohnson, I don't think the problem is Arabica beans, but it may be the roast. A lot of these coffees are over roasted today, particularly from the influence of Starbucks, which really roasts with a heavy hand. I would look for a medium roast bean, set the coarseness of the grind to no more than halfway, and then start making experimental coffees, dialing up the water and down the amount of coffee until you hit his happy spot. One other trick is get a cup, dial up ONE shot of espresso, then use the hot water button and fill the cup with hot water. Stir it up and see if he likes it. Then adjust the coffee up and water down until you hit the right mixture. Once you get done with this, set up 2 profiles so that he can dial coffee his way and you the right way....See MoreCounter Top Miele 5300 coffee machine - advice/feedback
Comments (7)Jborge: how are you liking your CM5300? We bought one 3 months ago or so. We have a Miele Dishwasher and stove about 20 years almost trouble free (knock on wood), so we love the brand. I'm retired, so have time for the CM5300 maintenance. I sent it back for repair due to inconsistent milk quantity and frequent issues with the right side milk spout not working. Just got it back yesterday. I think some of the issues relate to maintenance with the milk pipe; not sure whether the "repair" center addressed those. I think you have to Rinse the milk pipe every day (start and finish) you drink a milk drink and Clean it weekly. What beans do you use? When the CM5300 works, which is almost all of the time, it is heaven....See Moredivotdiva2
