Help with Direct Vent Fireplace Pipe sizing.

Craig Scott

I have a home with a direct vent fireplace (that vents through the wall). However, it was mounted too high (by previous owners) for our liking. So, we're looking to lower it. I've already removed the unit and am about to lower the platform it sits on. Because of this I will have to extend the vent piping. I've been looking for vent piping it seems the standard sizes are 5"x8" and 4"x6 5/8" (the diameters of the outer and inner pipe). However when I measure my existing vent pipe the inner pipe diameter is 4 3/8" (male side) and 4 3/4" (female side) and the outer piper is 7 1/2" and 7 3/4". Is this the same as wood (a 2x4 is not actually 2" and 4")? Not sure what to buy. Thanks for any help.
