Space / overhang between countertop and stove / fridge
Comments (5)thanks for the replys.. Debrak - you are saying nice tight fit between the stove and base cab? Thats what I am thinking. The tile (which is gone now) caused the gap. I was thinking about leaving 1/2 inch on each side of the stove. Thoughts?...See MoreSpace between island and counter
Comments (3)If the island counter is 36" high, the recommended overhang for seating is 15". People do with less in a pinch, and if the seating is just for chatting and having a beverage, rather than comfortable seating for a meal...and will want more if there's something like a sink, stove, or splashy/messy work area in front of the seated people. 42" is usually a nicely sized aisle, and whether you'd need larger or can do with smaller depends on what is on each side of the aisle (Things that may need to open at the same time? Work/task areas that might conflict? People needing to work back to back?), and how much traffic goes through. If you have a situation where there won't be too many workers or traffic in that aisle, you can probably go with a little less...Can you mock it up somehow to get a feel for the distance you're considering?...See MoreAre there any Counter- Depth Refrigerators between 36" -39" wide?
Comments (4)Thanks so much for the feedback both of you!Well, I guess I feel better knowing that 39" is now becoming standard for ref. spaces and really isn't wasted. We replaced our cabinets about 10 years ago--and the whole reason we did it then was because we needed a new refrigerator and wanted one of those new, "cool", side-by-side refrigerators that needed 36" clear, and our original layout only had a 33" space for the ref! (Of course, I was thrilled to have an excuse to justify replacing the ugly almond-colored formica cabinets!) So, when we planned the new layout, I wanted to make sure that we left extra room for the ref, just in case, in the future standards for family-sized refrigerators got even bigger! Then, later I always had kind of regretted giving up that extra 3" for a ref. instead of cabinets! That was so nice of you, Breezygirl, for looking up ref. widths on ajmadison for me! Do they allow you to limit searches by width? I tried looking on a few web sites, but I thought it would take me all day to click on ezch one and look up the specs for the width. Now I know, I won't waste my time looking for anything wider than 36"!...See MoreCounter and cabinet spacing for refrigerator
Comments (4)The refrigerator I'm going to put there has double doors and is a a few inches deeper than the countertop, so there is plenty of room for the doors to be fully opened. I'm not speaking of front overhang of the countertop, but on the side against the refrigerator. What are fillers? The countertops in my main kitchen extend 0.5 inches to the sides of the cabinets next to the stove and refrigerator. There are two base cabinets options I'm looking at at Home Depot. One option makes the space for the refrigerator 38 inches, and the other 41 inches....See Moresmm5525
