It's January 2013! How is your build progressing?
Comments (100)We're in but still only on a temp. CO. Waiting for a dry enough day to finish up the grading so we can get the final & looks like it'll be at least another week. We absolutely love our new home & it was totally worth all the stress! Kitchen - favorite features include the TV over the fridge and the snack drawers/coffee bar area. Kitchen Island - granite is Sage Brush from South Africa Great Room Covered Porch - I see us spending many, many evenings out here! Still need a few shutters, landscaping and the temp handrail will come down as soon as we get the final CO....See MoreIt's January 2015- How is your build progressing?
Comments (150)andrew-love dormers, that is an amazing transformation. Are you living IN it mid demo? I am a fellow Michigander as well. Michelle-ummm, well yes there are a *few* things I would change, lol. Overall it's fine but I really really really wish we would have buffered the master area a little better due to the opposite shift thing. I love that I can get into the bathroom/closet without disturbing dh (and turn the lights on and see my clothes and all that fun stuff) but wish we would have had the closet between the bedroom and the bath instead of the other way around. I do wake up when he comes home at 3 a.m. and that is a bummer because I never used to. But for normal schedules the layout we have would have been just fine. The other thing is I think I would have put a door in by our locker area that faces front - a friend/family type entrance. Not a big deal but I think we would have used it. The locker area is functioning well and I like that it's not in the walk way if all the gear doesn't get put away every time. According to dh I still have boxes in the barn that belong in the kitchen - say what? My kitchen is already functioning so what could they be??? Lol. After it warms a bit I will have to check it out. We are mostly settled though and I know where most everything is now, hehehe. My current hearts desire is grass. The dirt of course is covered by snow right now but I know it's there! I love my closet organizer system, that I have room to dress in my closet. I love my cabinets and my blum glides and my woodhollow inserts in my kitchen. I love my property and that our living areas face the back and that we get to enjoy that view every single day. I was also going to comment on your back yard discovery, did you snow shoe or cross country? I can't remember now but I remember that pic - awesome. We found a whole trail system behind our house and I feel like we hit the jackpot. It is amazing. It is an equestrian trail but this time of year no horses on it - there are snowmobile trails too. DH and I have been doing some hiking. I love the fresh air and it is so beautiful to look at. I will be checking in time to time. I still covet your office off your kitchen. :D aimless-I keep reading my head Horton Hears a Who and was looking for a Dr. Seuss sign or something!...See More's January 2015- How is your build progressing? - Part 2
Comments (58)Carson...thx! Your place is looking gorgeous as well. I love all you trim detail going up. Zoe....thx! Your place is coming along beautifully, too. I love all the arches that you have throughout your home. For perspective, it took our builder around 2 months after cabinetry was installed to our completion date. Builder wouldn't give us a projected move in date until that point, too. Mrsb...love the light fixture! Michelle...thx...that was exactly my goal. I worried with changing our color tones from warm beiges to cooler tones that it would look cold but the BM reverve pewter is one of those great neutrals that combines both. Our baseboards are 9" with the room height being 9' Mattiepies...I love my BM reverve pewter! For my basement vanity I used BM la Paloma...looks much cooler but no blue undertones. CZscrap...looks like some beautiful views! Dreamer16...looks like a beautiful classic brick home Juniper...think your trim looks great! I agree with Amberm that once your stone goes up any thought of white will go away. I also think the white would have been too stark with the dark windows. Are you carrying the creamy tones into your interior trim? I think that it would bring some continuity to it instead of jumping to something really white inside...See MoreIt's January 2016- How is your build progressing?
Comments (103)Daisy - thanks! sure, siding is just a 5" vinyl in whatever plain white color they offered. We did do a larger window wrap, I think 3" and standard was 2". This helped give a little detail since everything is white on white. I'll look at the box next time to see brand if you want. We debated Hardie but it was significant extra cost and maintenance. In our area almost no one does it so it seemed overkill. I know vinyl is not really seen as a nice choice around GW, but I actually love how it turned out and am glad we spent that money elsewhere. island is 7'1" x 3' with a 14" overhang for seating. 15" is recommended but we are a short family, and I was trying to get more space for my walkway. island drawers - the top drawers have pegboard inserts and I intended to use them to store plates and my glass Rubbermaid storage. However, I think they will be too deep for this and am thinking of using them for mixing bowls, etc now. Probably one will be used as a snack drawer with cereal and kids snacks right by fridge. The middle is double trash bin pullout which we will use one for trash one for plastic recycling. I also have another double trash pullout right under my drop zone for paper recycling. This is the only thing I'm thinking I should have changed - done those double drawers stacks as a three drawer stack instead. Hard to know for sure until we move in, our stuff has been packed up for over a year!!...See MoreDLM2000-GW
