Need advice on how to fix garden statue exterior
Comments (1)they make stain especially for concrete. It will also help seal and protect your statue from further deterioration. Make sure it is good and clean first, dish detergent and a scrub brush, followed by just a good rinse and allow to dry thoroughly for several days before attempting the stain. Make sure you stain and seal the bottom of the base too. one of the best things you can do for it is to keep it from contact with soil. rest its base on another piece of concrete or on gravel. constant contact with the soil will introduce extra moisture into the cement and expansion and contraction of the cement will be increased during heat and cold periods by the moisture retained in the concrete. best wishes...See MoreModern exterior advice needed!
Comments (0)We put a modern shed roof with high windows on half of our 1959 ranch home. We picked vertical gray metal siding on the new section, and now we need to upgrade the garage exterior and the remaining exposed yellow brick (on the back of the house) in a cost-effective way. The garage is currently stucco and is a main feature of both the front of the house and our patio seating area. We are leaning toward re-stuccoing the garage and painting the remaining brick. Can you suggest colors or alternative exterior choices for these areas? Comments (24)What chloebud said. Few garage doors are attractive or special enough to highlight. If you paint your garage door the same color as the body of the house the huge blank space of the garage tends to blend in which is a good thing. Just like "hiding " down spouts with same/similar is a good thing. In your case you might choose a garage door color that "reads" like the overall color of the brick. That might be easiest to do by standing across the street with paint color samples and hold up a few that look like they will blend in with the brick. I agree blue might be a touch one to coordinate with your brick. I like the cream and gray/tan colors for the body of the house and the black accent color would look sharp. Garage door color same/similar as house color: (photos not loading. But google "garage door colors same as house " or similar search on Houzz and those photos are helpful to visualize.)...See MorePLEASE HELP--need advice---What color white for our exterior??
Comments (35)Whatever you do, DO NOT Paint the copper gutters and downspouts. They are an architectural feature. There are spit opinions on painting brick. If it's an ugly color, paint it. My personal experience was painted brick was the easiest, most durable house covering. It was 25 years before we had to paint our house a second time. We washed the house every year and the paint was incredibly durable. Trim paint is another issue entirely. It took constant upkeep. If the house is stucco, use an elastomeric paint. It's much thicker than regular house paint and designed to expand and contract with the stucco. You can tint it, just like regular paint. Let Lori guide you on color....See Morevintageliving
