stacked upper cabinets- mixing solid & glass on the upper uppers?
Comments (18)illini girl, it will look fine! Having looked again at a bazillion Houzz kitchens and finished kitchens on Pinterest with the glass upper-uppers lit, and UCL, I'm noticing how much the color of the light affects the overall look. I've elected not to have my upper-uppers (which are glass on the range wall and half glass half solid on my refrig wall) not lit. Hope I don't regret it. edit - I just went and looked at my elevation pics and realized that even on my range wall not all my upper-uppers are glass. more from Houzz [Beach Style Kitchen[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/beach-style-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2110) by Stone Harbor Architects & Designers Asher Associates Architects [Traditional Kitchen[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2107) by Atlanta General Contractors Blake Shaw Homes, Inc And to answer the other question re posting pics directly from Houzz - there is an icon called "embed" on the houzz page - either at the bottom of the picture or off to the side at the bottom. Click on it, and it will give you two choices, large or small. Most here are posted using the large format. Click on one and it will highlight the whole embed code. Copy it and pasted it onto the GW forum page....See MoreTweaking layout: uppers and dining space of open galley
Comments (20)oh so helpful, y'all! lavender - wood on bottom, white on top? or flip? If I have to go with ikea fronts for cost, I'll do white on both. Countertop definitely TRIMMED. No seating there at all. Just to cover the cabinets & nothing fancy. Franklin edge. Wrap frig. That would really make a difference to trim it. bmorepanic. Hi! The petrie sofa looks so much like a sofa I got at David Edward access excess. like this one, but no arms: From banquette layout? I moved it from my LR to try out as a 'banquette' sofa. Love it, but it is too low for dining table height. Presently wondering whether I can alter it somehow to make taller. Laughing at the boat anchor analogy for my current table! The table is from my former (married) life and was purchased for a very different space. rhome. Oh I think I'd love to use color on the uppers. Will depend on whether I can afford scherr's or go with ikea premade fronts. Rhome410, you brought up the peninsula overhang too. I really feel like there is not the space for a peninsula with overhang and still able to keep DR space not too crowded. btw, LiGHTING: I do not like my pendants at all. Another poor choice! These will eventually change. So no design based on these. Hoosier. I had not planned on using it originally. Peninsula lights. Don't love them (another chance to sell on CL!) And thanks for asking for my original inspiration photo. You hit key points re: what I like about this kitchen: colorful without being circus-like naked wood a bit of whimsy tile from ceiling on down upper to the countertop from ceiling clean lines transitional style but still looks solid. From In Progress Kitchen A warmer wood? From In Progress Kitchen Hardware From In Progress Kitchen Ummmm -- pawa. right on. I am buying piecemeal. Backwards! Most of the stuff I have (excepting OTR microvent, buffet table, not quite right peninsula lights) I already had. The backstory is that this remodel I started fresh from marital break up and right when I moved into my new all-mine house. So, while I've been energetic, I violated the live in your space for a while and think through/prioritize changes. It's ok. I needed the project at the time, badly wanted to 'nest,' have it all done . . . probably still do. That said, now I am ready to be done! I really appreciate the help you all are offering....See Moreupper cabinet layout...yes/no?...help
Comments (6)Thank you all for your thoughts! sena01, are you saying that on the range wall, I should put a corner shelve that will be literally in the corner, on the range wall & going onto the back wall....one piece essentially? Shelving, not cabinet? You don't think it'll look too crowded? Just checking! I do think the open shelving will be less heavy on the wall w/ the heavy range hood & large fridge. Thanks heidihausfrau, I've been looking at pictures for years!! I've tried to get to this for years, but something always gets in my way before starting. I'm finishing this time no matter what tries to push me down this time!!!! It's interesting because my taste has changed over time & I can really see that thru my inspiration pictures! I've always been big on collecting antiques...furniture, paintings, books, etc, so I have plenty of beautiful things to put on the open shelving! I think it'll look pretty cool. I'll post pictures when it's all said & done. herbflavor, I wish I could get my counters to be deeper, but unfortunately, the bottom cabs are from IKEA & they only come in one depth! Great idea tho. But, I've seen numerous kitchens w/ 2 different paints on uppers & lowers & I like it a lot. Or paint on one of the them & wood tone on the other, which is actually what I'll be doing. Cream on the bottom & a pretty wood on top...looking at pine maybe. I feel that if it gets tiresome, it's only shelves I'd have to change out, but w/ the drawers & corner cab, along w/ the other small cabinets, I'm going to have plenty of space for all of my small appliances & pots & pans. I can put my plates, glasses, etc on the shelving & be happy w/ that. And, I have plenty to put on those! I think I'm more concerned now about putting something on the wall by the range. Do I do a corner shelving unit that goes from the back wall to the range wall, as in one corner unit? Or an enclosed cabinet like that. Or, just on the wall of the range or just on the back wall? Again, I don't want my kitchen to look like I've utilized every square inch just to get storage. Any other suggestions out there? Thank you everyone!...See MoreKitchen Layout - upper cabinet ideas?
Comments (15)Just a fleeting thought...how weird would it be to shift the sink down on the island so that it is more across from the range? I would then shift the dishwasher down to be beside the sink still but move the microwave drawer down to the other side of the dishwasher. Even though our plans are done, we are the builders & we have not broken ground (waiting on some bids on a few things to come in before finishing up on bank paperwork). So, I am able to make small adjustments still & just make note of it. I've never thought about putting my sink off center. My original wish, back when we first starting working on plans, was to center the sink & then have the range centered behind it. However, the person we worked on plans with suggested putting the range in the position you see on the plan. Visually, I like things lined up so I wasn't sure how I felt about the suggestion but left it that way, knowing I could sleep on it awhile and adjust it if I wanted to before we finalized things with the gas/plumbing/concrete/framing/electrical/etc....See Moredanamyt
