I would rather have the counter top between the sink and fridge, than the upper cabinet, so I like the MW shelf. I like the open area above the range, too, but keep in mind that the island hood will be more expensive, and will need to draw high cfm to capture steam and grease. Maybe the savings in upper cabinets will help offset the cost of an island hood.

What is on the other side of the wall that stretches between the sink and stove walls? Can you reclaim some stud bay space for shallow pantries? That would help replace storage lost in upper cabinets, and should be easy to DIY.

BTW, I'd put drawer bases on each side of the range.

The other side is a hallway. I recessed the area behind the refrigerator, so I wouldn't have to buy a counter depth fridge.

I also forgot to mention it is only a 2 bedroom 1 bath duplex, so there should only be between 1 and 3 people living in the unit.

I remember your previous thread, but I was too lazy to look it up. Have you considered building a high, box-like shelf above the range run? It would be open, but the tenants could use it for display or storage.

I haven't thought about that. I was thinking about building a small soffit to put recessed lights in. It would help dropping the range hood closer to the range if needed. I really like the open look. I'm just worried about the lack of wall cabinets. I already bought the bases cabinets. They are just standard door types. I have a lot of different constraints with this project. I'm always thinking about what is the most cost effective because it is an investment. I also do not want to get any repair calls either for drawers not working. I went with extreme budget cabinets. When I did my kitchen I opted for all drawer fronts and wasn't as concerned about the cost of everything.

You need a DW end panel and a filler attached to create an L shaped panel at the end of the DW (between it and the fridge) in order to support the counter. You also need filler between any of the cabinets adjacent to the wall so that they can actually open, and account for out of square walls. You need to account for those required fillers in the overall dimensions. I like to cut a standard 3" one in half in order to use both pieces.

Stock cabinets aren't going to have refrigerator side panels or a microwave shelf. Even a cheap island hood starts at about $600. Goes up from there. Then there is the venting ductwork to be figured out. And it requires a more expensive slide in range rather than a standard range with a 48" backguard that is too high to use with a bar height counter. You easily have 2K in upgrades just from that peninsula cooking choice. Or more.

No on the microwave between sink and fridge. Why not put it on or in a shelf in the cabinet next to the hood.
