need help with black plastic (black mulch....for warming soil)
Comments (7)This has always struck me as odd, since black plastic doesn't absorb a lot more sunlight than dark colored soil. But I guess it adds a layer of insulation, so that to the extent the soil warms up, it won't cool as fast. In that regard, any plastic would do. Clear would probably work as well as black. Fruit production starts to tail off for tomatoes when nighttime temps don't get much below 75F. Peppers and eggplants should do fine. But that's air temperature. Your plastic on the ground won't affect the air temperature, one way or another. To the extent you have plants growing on the black plastic, they'll shade it, and you won't get any ground heating at all. I mean, the idea is that once the plants are mature, the sunlight should hit THEM, not the plastic. I assume this plastic is perforated, so you can irrigate? You can just check the soil temp, and if it starts getting uncomfortably high, just throw some leaves or newsprint over it....See MoreOrange/rust bricks w/black specs, black windows - help on trim pl
Comments (15)NewHB: Thanks!! The flowers and herbs (both in pots and in the garden) have actually managed to stay alive this year -- thanks to slightly cooler (and now chilly! LOL!) temperatures around Dallas! The silk flowers in the large half-basket have been replaced with fall ones -- always a nice change! Of course the front door area is now filled with spooky Halloween decor! LOL!...See MoreBlack Interior + Black Exterior Vinyl Windows
Comments (20)Does anyone know a window company/manufacturer in the Atlanta area they would recommend for black interior/black exterior windows? I do not want wood--do not want the upkeep. We did a house remodel that just finished and replaced some of the windows. I dislike the wood interior which we had to paint and it's only been a few months and it is already chipping and is extremely sensitive to any "use". I want a window that I can install and not worry about again...for a while. But it has to be black/black. I'm open for any suggestions and not married to any brand. Thank you....See Moreblack windows. black vs white trim?
Comments (15)Here is my mock-up with two over one. I did one with the existing trim in red for clarity. It is almost non-existent. I see now you are going to add to the trim. The top of the bottom windows will have to be replaced too, because they are not wide enough. I agree with you that the trim should be white. The black seems heavy handed. Second picture with two black trim on the top left and two with white on the right. Lower level shows one of each. The trim I used was not wide. One other issue is what is the center window going to look like in black? Can you do a trim there?...See Moreamckeon
