Growing "Sweet Autumn" clematis from seed

I gathered some seed from a wild plant, and I want to plant them. I read that it can take up to 3 years for the seeds to sprout, and at least 6 months. I'm not sure I want to wait that long. At any rate, I'm going to put a few into a small tray and stick it outside so it can go through the change of seasons and see what happens.

Has anyone else grow clematis from seed? Any info is appreciated.
