Should I start over? Gift wrap contest present
Comments (42)Love that victorian lady nite lite. I can't blame you for wanting to have her for your own home. In the event you don't win, (which I think is unlikely because your present is beautifully decorated), I hope she will still be available to purchase another. I just went on the website to order one for my DM. The victorian lady matches my parents MBR/MB decor, and will definitely be a great accent to their MB while providing a bit of light for a late nite trip to the MB. You can't beat the price either. I was wondering if you set a limit on spending for your exchange? We do a Yankee Swap on Christmas day before dinner. There is a $25 limit. It's been a hit, but we keep it to fun and the odd - off the beaten path-type gifts. The gifts have to be suitable for both a man or a woman. My DB is the best at finding the "fun" gifts. I am trying to give him a run for his money this year, lol. One year I wrapped a leopard snuggie, and that present was stolen several times. Why, I've no idea as I think I would trip and kill myself trying to walk in the snuggie. I think my DSIL eventually got the snuggie and she is a mere 5 ft. tall. I have 2 of my 3 swap gifts purchased for this year. Need an idea for the 3rd. Wow, the guys doing a present decorating contest. Now that will be such fun to see. Make sure to take pics of all of the presents before they've been opened. I would love to see the creativity of those you're up against. I think you're not giving yourself enough credit. Your present looks great. Very pretty, and creative with the pretty paper, elegant ribbon and the berries and pic in the middle. Can't wait to hear about your contest results....See MoreWhite Elephant gift

White elephant gift exchange From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please improve this article if you can. (December 2006) The white elephant gift exchange (also called Yankee Swap, Scottish Gift Exchange, Thieving Secret Santa, Nasty Christmas[1], Chinese Gift Exchange, or Thieving Elves) is a popular party game usually played during the Christmas season in the United States. The premise of the game is that each guest contributes one gift to the game, and ultimately each guest walks away with one different gift from the game. The type of gift is sometimes decided ahead of time (eg. "something less than $10," "a used item from home," "a gag gift," etc.). [edit] Gameplay Initially, all of the wrapped gifts are placed onto a gift pile. The gifts are not labeled whom they are from, nor do they list a recipient. Everyone chooses a number from a bowl, this determines the order of gift choosing. The first person chooses a gift from the gift pile, opens the gift for all to see, and keeps it for the time being. Person #2 can either choose to take an unopened gift from the gift pile or steal a gift from any previous gift-opener. If an unopened gift is selected, the gift must be unwrapped. If at any time a person's gift is stolen, that person can immediately unwrap a new gift or steal another person's gift. This process repeats until a gift reaches "dead" status (see below) or until a person chooses to unwrap a new gift (as opposed to stealing a gift), at which point play proceeds to the next person. After all turns have been taken, the person who went first has the option of taking one more turn since this person had the disadvantage of not knowing what any of the now-opened presents were at the beginning of play. Owners of opened gifts must keep them visible for all to see and hold them up when requested. Optional Rules: Dead Gift: A gift is "dead" after it has been stolen three times. A "dead" gift may no longer be stolen. In another variant, each player unwraps a new gift before choosing whether or not to keep it or swap it for one already opened. In a variant based in parts of central New Jersey, the gift is wrapped inside-out, so that the printed part of the wrapping paper is not visible to the recipient. The back of the wrapping paper, which is typically white, is what gives the gift the term "white elephant."...See MoreWhy menu's need to be discussed!
Comments (16)I've been to events were I am honestly the only person NOT bringing desserts or various pick up real quick at the supermarket junk food such as the bag of Cheetos (I always plan to bring something I can eat in case this turns out to be the case...) There's one group I belong to that has sign ups for their themed pot luck events -- and if it is geared around an item that might be pricey (a shrimp main course, say) -- 2 or three people pitch in the money for that. This way, there is only two or three people bringing desserts, a couple bringing soups, three or four sides -- and people will say what sides they are bringing (something is usually a leafy salad, too) -- and a couple of appetizers. Plus the main or two or three, which may include a vegetarian main. At our work get togethers, we sign up under general categories: mains (veggie or omni), sides/appetizers, and desserts. We have folks working there from all over the world, which makes those get togethers absolutely wonderful, and I never have room for dessert -- not that I really care, anyway! (Oooooo authentic steamed dumplings.... fantastic curries... . oooooo!)...See MoreQuestion for those using the Adult Coloring Books
Comments (12)I bought some books and gel pens last week when AC Moore had a sale 3 books for $10 (Creative Haven and more) so I picked up several. They also had a great set of 52 gel pens for $10 (reg. $24 - they have them now for $12.99 until ?) in a tin case so I got 4 sets. I colored my first pic and love the way it came out (I'll post a pic later). I get so engrossed in how to place the colors that it keeps my going for hours. I make copies of the prints so I always have the blank original. I'm giving some books and pens to family members for Christmas. Also, Staples has Sharpies fine and Xfine on sale 24 colors for $10 which is a good deal. I bought both as I can use them for my other paid art work. Suggestion: If you are buying coloring books for elder people, I'd find ones with larger spaces to color as some of the books are so intricate that someone with bad eyes and nervous or painful hands will have a difficult time, IMO. Many of the books have tiny spaces to color and it's hard on the eyes. I'm learning how to blend and add touches to give my pictures depth. FUN!!!...See Moredandyrandylou
