Higher quality pull-out kitchen faucet recs?

I originally posted this over in Plumbing, but was told to come over here for more traffic...

We're looking for recommendations for higher quality pull out kitchen faucets with relatively modern styling. Single lever action, single hole mount.

Started with a Blanco elipso XL that lasted about 11 years before some expensive cracks and leaks that drove a replacement. Went with a Hansgrohe Allegro-E, which has already started leaking after a year, and just generally feels flimsy compared to the old Blanco.

What brands should I be looking at that will be durable but still have a fairly sleek/modern style (chrome or stainless finish)? Regarding budget, if we're going to go through a $3-400 faucet every couple of years, I'm willing to spend more to get one that lasts. Call it a soft limit at $1000. Don't really want to spend that much, but if it buys me durability so be it. Don't want to spend just for the sake of spending, though...

We have been very happy with our Grohe faucets over the years. Plus, 2 new ones in our remodel. Reasonably priced, great quality, IMO.

We bought the Delta Trinsic based on reviews here. After using it heavily for 2.5 years, I really love it. The look and function are both great.

I just made my choice of faucets. I am going to go with the Grohe pull down for 2 reasons: Pull down vs pull out: since I purchased this house recently, the pull-out faucet has constantly loosened and water has been leaking all over the sink under-cabinet! But as I had planned on doing a complete remodel (watch out cabinets, took me 2 hrs with a good hammer and built-in frustration to gut everything out!) On top of that, the pull-out ball front of the faucet kept hitting my tall pans and frustrating me even more! And forget trying to clean the sink all the way around! So a pull-down was an easy decision (got to be a nice improvement to the old pull-out!) 2. I chose Grohe after reading the hundreds of blogs on this incredible website and because Grohe is a german company who has been making incredibly strong and dependable faucets for so long! Check out their groheamerica website (http://www.groheamerica.com/t/25_4021.html) one of these days, you will be impressed with the number of medals they have won! Now I have to decide which Grohe: Ladylux or Bridgeford. Irawoods.com has them starting at $312 with free shipping and taxes and I know I am going to find it even cheaper on other internet sites.

kitchen window bump out at counter hight or higher?

I think its personal preference. i opted to have the window installed a little higher than the counter. Some things you should consider are: What will you use for window sill? I used a separate piece of granite. I was lucky to get a piece leftover from counters to make the sill. The granite was too thick and had to be shaved. This was a bit pricey. If you wanted to use continuous granite for a counter height sill as shown in the first picture above, then you will either have a seam behind your faucet or you will need to have enough width on you slab to accommodate the bump out. If you had the width, How would this work if the window had to be changed? Would the faucet and whole countertop have to come out? I assume the window frame will be mounted to the studs inside the wall. What if you plan on counter height, but your measurements are a bit off or your granite is thicker than the clearance you allowed when the window was installed? What if you decide to tile the sill? Tile is not as thick as granite. I had an excellent GC, but he steered me away from the counter height sill. I'm happy with my decision.

We used Rohl’s Perrin & Rowe lineup in our bathroom reno and couldn’t be happier. Exposed thermostatic shower system, sink faucet and tub filler for claw foot tub and a whole host of accessories. The quality is tangible. We had a minor issue with the diverter valve in the shower (it worked, but it didn’t feel smooth) which Vintage Tub & Bath replaced, no questions asked. Fortunately it was an easy fix on the exposed shower (a few unions). And Rohl’s polished nickel finish is exquisite Now were doing our kitchen and another bathroom and we keep going back to Rohl. We’ve found few options which tickle our fancy and the ones we have, (Lefroy Brooks, Graff, etc.) we’re unsure of the quality. Being a car guy, I like car analogies: A Lexus LS460 is in the same class and possesses most of the same features as a Mercedes S550, BMW 7-Series or Audi A8, and may even give you less problems than the German marques, but a Lexus will never have that same “carved from billet” feel.

Haven't installed it yet, so can't comment on how well it works, but it looks great and it does have a true pull out.

I have used a KWC faucet for about 3 years, problem free. they tend to be a bit modern looking, priced similarly to blanco.

I wanted to add, for quite a bit more money, you can also look at Dornbracht. My sister has had a Dornbracht for 5 or so years and it has held up well. Waterstone has been recommended by many on the forum as well.

Yes, it needs to be single hole. Not wanting to drill new holes in the granite, nor do I want to lock myself in to a relatively uncommon 2-hole design.

And I've learned that the other half is more or less hard over on a top mounted control lever. She says that side mounted is harder to get to with dirty hands. So that will limit our options quite a bit.

There was a gorgeous Waterstone one I saw at Pirch. The pull down was so smooth. It was in the $1500 range
