Ideal chandelier diameter for round or square table is ⅓ to ½ the diameter of your table. Example: 5’ round/square table with (60”) diameter x .3 = 20” and multiplying by .5 = 30”. Therefore, chandeliers that are 20” - 30” diameter would be an ideal size for a five foot round or five foot square table. These are just guidelines. Some chandeliers have heavier visual weight than others. I'm not a designer but I believe that task lights in the kitchen should generally be in front of you, not behind you. That means that the recessed lights above the counter should be just before the counter edge so that they light the work area and will not create your shadow when you're standing in front of the counter chopping/prepping. But if you have undercabinet lighting, this may not be a problem. If you will be doing prep on the island, whether you are facing the wall or the sink window, the overhead lights will be behind you.
