Help-- Echeveria Shedding Leaves
Comments (1)Echeveria routinely drop lower leaves. The amount and frequency with which you water depend on several factors, including but not limited to: air circulation, temperature, humidity, soil, location, etc. If the leaves are firm, most likely your plant is getting enough water for your conditions. Echeveria usually don't turn yellow and drop leaves because of lack of water. Usually, the leaves will get soft and wilt before dying off. Another reason for soft leaves is root rot and the plant can't take up the water. A picture is always helpful. Comments (5)Do you have a picture of the seedling(s) in question? I am new at growing from seeds, and mine are all less than a foot tall. But the very first leaves they grew (which are now the lowest down) have yellowed and/or fell off. Might check a couple things though (in general)...how dry/wet is the soil? Better on the dry side than the wet, as plumies don't like "wet feet." (soil that's too wet/no drainage). Check the stem for softness (the firmer the better, otherwise could be root rot). Hope this helps... Mark...See MoreLeaves are falling off my Echeveria
Comments (5)Get it out of the container; shake off all the soil from the roots, hopefully there are roots left. Let it dry on some newspaper or kit. towels. You need to check if the stalk/stem is firm. If it is very soft or mushy, there may not be any chance of plant surviving. Never use containers without drainage holes, and the potting mix should be grittier - fine soil (even cactus&succulent soil sold in bags) is very water retentive and plant sitting in that kind of soil usually rots rapidly. If you have only that kind of soil, buy a bag of perlite. It is best to sift the perlite to get rid of dust. Mixing perlite 50/50 with soil (could be more perlite), will help somehow. Soil should dry out between watering, but not only on surface but around the root ball....See MoreAdenium trunk soft and leaves yellowing
Comments (24)... I know you were (and are), Dianne. This is an experience for us all. Adeniums are prone to rot and must be examined often. They must be kept in a fast draining medium suitable to your specific climate. Water needs are also specific to climate. Pagan and others can share their recommendations for gritty mix. Where are you located? I don't think the branches are clear of rot yet. The inside should have no color other than clean white tissue. I have not had any luck rooting cuttings but know they must be kept relatively dry. Now that this experience is behind you, would you consider purchasing seeds and growing your own babies? If you wish, there's a "Grow Out" just beginning on this forum and a few seeds is all that's required. The group is currently deciding on what seed to purchase. You will glean a wealth of knowledge from the experience.
