Bona Traffic vs Bona Mega
Comments (6)If you paid for Traffic, then the contractor owes you the difference in product cost. Yes, a coat of Traffic can be applied over Mega. However, Mega or any other existing coat needs to be be properly prepared to be successful. Just so you know...there is Traffic and then Traffic HD...and yes Traffic HD costs more than Traffic. I just returned from a job I did with Traffic that is eight years in service in an active house; floors, steps and trim. Except for the usual damage from denting, the floors look fabulous. Some will tell you that Traffic is overkill...well that overkill looks awfully good after eight years. Most of the contractor complaints regarding Bona products resides in the higher product costs and recent Bona marketing practices in the U.S....See MoreFloor guy said Bona Mega/Traffic too hard....help
Comments (2)Just a comment on the "white lines" that appear when the floor shrinks, those white lines eventually give way becoming the points from which the finish peels off the floor. Whether the problem with the finish on my floors (over 2500 sq ft) is a poor product, a substitute product (Bona contends that Traffic would never peel if properly applied so whatever was used on my floor must not have been Traffic), or poor application (not enough dry time, failure to lightly sand between coats), the result is finish that peels. When I can afford it, I will have the Bona Traffic (or whatever it is) removed. At that point I will finish the floors with tung oil which is what I wanted in the first place. The floor guy (recommended by the mill which reclaimed and remilled the heart pine flooring) praised the durability of Traffic. I should have realized that putting down a product like Traffic is less labor-intense than applying tung oil. My mistake....See MoreHelp with decisions on floor finish - Bona Mega vs Emulsions
Comments (21)Hey Stephanie! Nice to come across another Canuk on the ol' Internuts! Yeah we're still chugging along here in 'Peg S#itty! The remodeling industry took a hit because so many homeowners were off work and decided to try and do things themselves. Buuuut, as I expected, I'm now getting calls to go and fix their f-ups. I bought my 93 year old grandma a Bombers hoodie for Christmas, hopefully she gets to wear it next season! Doesn't sound like we'll see any CFL in 2021. Where abouts do you live? Are you originally from Winnipeg? I put cork flooring in my moms kitchen years ago. I hated the colour she chose back then, and hate it even more now. I'm buying her house in a few months and will attempt my first cork refinishing 😨 That is supremely helpful advice! Thanks so much for Rays digits! I think I've actually been in his shop before, years ago. It was in the basement of a small commercial building, if I remember correctly. Maybe near Osborne Village? Oddly enough, this client wants a honey oak finish...I tried to talk them out of it, but they're set. I showed them a sample of Bona Amber Seal, and it wasn't nearly amber enough for them. So, I think I'll have to actually stain their poor oak floors right back into the 80's🤷 That being said, a little yellowing would be fine. If Basic Pro is on par with Mega, then I'll likely go that route as I can pick it up for $62/gallon, as opposed to $102 for Mega, or $110 for Mega One. Traffic would sure be nice, but I'd be working for 🥜's if I went that route. Such a competitive market here. The client got 5 quotes, of which I was the most expensive, and I bid 25% under the industry standard! I bid $5800, and one guy bid only $3500! How TF can you refinish 1500sf of oak floors and a staircase for $3500? Probably would have gone like this: -Sand with 26 -Sand with 80 -Roll on a coat of Varathane with a $2 roller from Dollarama -Hop in his 1992 Dodge Caravan -Crack a warm Budweiser from under the seat. -Drive home -Then email an invoice for $4200. I can't thank you enough for being so helpful!...See MoreBona Mega vs Traffic - can you do both?
Comments (4)Using a softer primer is a good idea to prevent side bonding, I have used Mega in the past followed by traffic, although one coat of Mega and two coats of traffic are better, there is no need to use two. Bona would say to use their primer although the normal Bona primer is a low quality, soft, cheap low PU / high Acrylate co polymer. This is remedied now by the release of Bona UX which is a harder, easier to sand primer and probably slightly better than Mega to use as a first coat. As James said, HD is not a ceramic finish, simply a 100% PU - isocyanate hardener cross linking product. HD is probably the best finish with the fastest curing.
