After calculating what was written above me, it looks like you can fit the same size table I have in my dining room, which is 42" wide by 78" long with the leaf in. We can fit up to 8 people at our table with the leaf in. I also love having a rectangle table! I have two openings in my dining room - one to the living room and the other to the kitchen. I have a door on the other wall and a window on the 4th. Just place your table in the middle of the room and it will work.

I guessed at size of kitchen eating area so verify measurements. A 72x36 table will work but tight to get to slider door. A 60” table in formal dining room will work but I would create a more flexible room with this space. I have some ideas on that. I will post that shortly. The key thing about round tables is get trim but sturdy pedestal that is clear enough for chairs to push in and get chairs that aren’t too wide at front edge. That front chair edge is what limits number of chairs.

It seems like there are some circulation spaces around the table and it seems like it's important to preserve those spaces. Looking at the photo, there seems to be a main walkway that runs along one side of the table and centering the table under the vault would move the table into that walking space. It fhat's the case, centering the table under the vault would end up with a very odly placed table. Looking at the space, even rotating the table 90-degees would still not give you enough space to fit the table centered under the vault without intruding into that walkway. Adding it all up, it seems like you should definitely not center the table under the vault. It's in a fine place in the photo. Arrange other things in the room to make that location work.

Viking movies? Problem solved then Tracy, just put the two GIANT hunting dogs beds on the right hand side of the table to take up that space! Done! LOL As @ptreckel said, nix the hutch and have your electrician on retainer. For what it’s worth, I showed my husband your post and pictures and he looked at me and said, “on the hutch, 100%, why is this even a question?” I will of course remember this as we are also embarking on a home build journey… my “great hall” moment is on the horizon, I can feel it… Deep breath, enjoy the shared experience of building your home & we’ll see how long the table stays centered on the beam once your furniture gets moved in and the kitchen island stools back into the table… Or maybe you can suggest you place the table at the other end in front of the fire? Where, I’m assuming giant joints of meat will be roasting on a spit? LOL!! It’ll all work out!
