Best height for powder room vanity
Comments (10)Hi ajsmama - I've been following your posts with interest because I'd like to do something similar, if I can find the right piece -- not easy. I've been looking for a while. Everything is either too shallow, too low, or too wide (for my small bathroom). Using a washstand will work out great, if you can solve the height problem. Have you considered adding legs to the vanity? They would have be rather plain to go with the style of the washstand. I saw some on Van Dykes that I think would go (stylistically speaking). I don't think it would be too difficult for a carpenter to make similar legs out of oak to match your washstand. As long as the size and tapering match the existing washstand legs and you can get a reasonable match for the stain and finish, the modifications would be nearly inconspicuous, and since the joints would be so low, I don't think that people would notice the joints even if the joint lines show. If you're planning to paint the washstand, it would be impossible to tell. The back legs wouldn't need to be tapered because they'd be totally hidden (and the back legs on your washstand are probably square anyway). If your carpenter uses dowel joints, they should be strong enough, since you won't have to move the washstand once it's installed. Here is a link that might be useful: Van Dykes - plain tapered furniture legs (paint grade)...See MorePowder room vanities
Comments (1)After pouring through all these sites below and finding a lot I really liked, in the end I ordered a sink base, drawer and feet from a kitchen cabinet line though a kitchen & bath cabinet showroom. But be prepared: it takes 6 - 8 weeks before delivery with this method. It was better for me to get to talk to a cabinet salesperson, see the finishes, choose the wood, order the vanity top and sink separately, and not pay for shipping. The cabinet line we used was Executive Kitchens green cabinetry line and a 22" x 18" deep vanity cabinet was about $700. Sticker shock but the only place I saw them for a lot less was Home Depot. On many of these sites in the search box enter the inches width size you are looking for to narrow down the choices (i.e. 22" or 22 inch) http://www.everyvesselsink.com/ http://www.thebathroomdepot.com/ http://www.simplyvanities.com/ http://www.ronbow.com/ http://www.costco.com/ http://www.homedepot.com/ http://www.hometodreamhome.com/ http://www.modernbathroom.com/ http://www.all-bathroom-vanities.com/...See Moreneed feedback -- mcm powder room vanity c'slist
Comments (22)Fly - We LOVE the house we have now and aren't looking at all. The missed house was back in 2005 when we had some definite financial and geographical confines and I let an ideal one slip through my fingers because I just . . . couldn't . . . . commit. In a house prior to that we made a vanity out of an antique dresser. We did a drop-in sink, though, and it worked great. The piece had three drawers and we lost use of the top one, but the middle and lower ones we just shortened (water lines came out of the floor) so they were still usable....See Morepowder room update with existing traditional vanity
Comments (9)Ok. Well, the existing cabinet is VERY traditional and dated so since you are ready to make other changes, I would seriously consider a simple line cabinet for sink. Especially if you might replace faucets. Alternatively, if you can do a DIY on the existing cabinet you could look at ALL-IN-ONE paint and select Moroccan colors and paint the existing cabinet! Maybe do a dark blue then go over raised decorative parts with a champagne gold rub n buff. Then get Moroccan hanging lights for over mirror. Just depends on how far you want to take it....See Morecpartist
