Weeping japanese maple training

Hello,

i purchased a few few japanese maple "2 year grafts" I am wondering if it is proper to train a limb off of the scion to continue up for a main trunk. I can't find much info except a video from mikes backyard nursery where he does this. If I do not do this, will the head fill out enough to reach the "6-8" ft height? I assume since it is more of a weeping habit the tree will not grow much higher. They are high grafts 18-24 inches. I just don't want to wind up with a small tiny mound, but did not know if it is proper or possible to train it upward with a single trunk, I will upload a photo of what I did when it arrived and any feedback on if this will work would be appreciated. This variety is waterfall. Thanks
