Would you do grey grout or white grout?

7 years agoMy tile was just completed yesterday. Eagle white granite. It's much lighter than it appears in the pic. Mostly off white with some grey. I did bone grout.

Comments (3)Thank you Debrak for the pics, yes, I do like the Deloren Gray. I found a chart on the internet that compares the colors of Mapei, Laticrete and Custom Building Products, very helpful. I do realize it isn't perfect, but will help me narrow down a few colors. mydreamhome, yes, I do have to drive 60 miles to HD and Lowes, so I will be searching out a few real tile stores in the city and calling to see if they have real grout samples. Thanks for that tip. The big box stores are great for a lot of things, but some are very lacking in knowledge and service. I think it is time for professional help! Comments (4)I like the contrasting gray grout, but for resale (in my area - mostly 100 year old homes, HCOL) I'd definitely go with matching (white) grout (well, just a bit off white to hide dirt). While many do like the gray grout on white tile, plenty are turned off by it. I doubt many buyers would be actually turned off by white grout on white tile. Its just 'safer,' at least according to real estate agents where I live (I asked many when I was doing my master bath). And, if the tile work isn't very straight, the contrasting color will magnify that problem. With similar color grout you won't notice tile issues as much. Comments (7)I just last Friday had both my walls and floors (I have the same large format tile on the walls as well as the floor) grouted with Mapei Warm Gray. It's gorgeous, I love it on the walls, but somehow I'm finding it a little to light for the floors, even though I like and wanted a uniform look. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with how the bathroom is turning out, but I think I'd have gone a little darker on the floors if I had it to do over....See Morenewmember4

7 years agoThe more noticable you want your tile - size & shape - to be, the darker the grout. I did a dark grey and like it.

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI just replaced my back splash with white Daltile subway tiles which worked perfectly for my needs. I picked what I thought was light gray grout. Once installed and finished, it has a bluish hue that I am not crazy about. So I would try to get a sample of the grout before install. It wasn't a big enough issue to bother me and I only notice it when I am staring at it. Also, with light gray (or blue lol) grout, it can still show dirt and grime. So unless you are going dark gray, you probably won't benefit from the grout hiding any dirt. Also, the white tile will show all the dirt. I was not expecting that and I have had to adjust to wiping down the back splash regularly. Not a problem, but a change because I previously had a black back splash.
One last thought: the darker the grout, the more pronounced each tile will appear. For me personally, I did not want that. So if you want the back splash to blend in behind the new counters and freshly painted cabs, then go with white to very light gray.
