Hi Annkh, it sounds like we are at a similar place in our remodels, I have just finalized the layout in the last few days...I think it's the last revision! I need to finish up these cabinet choices asap, because everything else is rolling along, and my cabinet decisions are slowing us down! Regarding the ROT, good point about useage of taller items...most items would fit in a large drawer, and if tallest pot doesn't fit, yes I could store elsewhere. It might be worth it to chance the drawers. I have a 4' wide place to put either a ROT or drawer cabs for pots and pans. To both you and drbeannie2000 - I just calculated that my FiestaWare dishes to go in 1 large drawer are a whopping 68 lbs. IDK if my drawers will be capable of that weight, and IDK if I actually want them all in one drawer - that just seems like a lot of weight to put in one drawer. They are all different colors and even on the upper cabinet shelf when I wanted to use certain colors I had to lift a heft of plates to get what I wanted. It might actually work better for me to have 4 drawers, then I can put my fav dishes in one drawer, and less fav - or 'summer colors' - in the next drawer. Seasonally switch them around, most used in top drawer. I'm putting an island in my remodel and that's where the dishes cabs will be - I will have 2 - 24" W drawer cabs for dishes (FW in one, and a set of pottery dishes in the other.) I think, after all, that 4 drawers might work better for me with these heavy dishes, and the bottom/largest drawer will hold the serving bowls and platters to these dishes. Does anyone see a downside to that?

clarygrace- Here's the current configuration of my cabinets on the ovens/rangetop wall. The only change I've decided on for sure is to eliminate that 12" tray pull out next to the ovens and simply make the drawer stack wider. It will throw off the symmetry a bit, but no one will ever notice because we have a giant island blocking the view of the base cabinets. Those drawer stacks are only 21" wide, so by eliminating the tray pull out I'll get one stack of 33" wide drawers. My plan is to make the space to the right of the rangetop my baking zone. Keep flours, sugars, and such in the upper cabinets and my rolling pins, cookie cutters, sprinkles, and such in the drawers. The drawers to the left of my rangetop will hold cooking utensils in the top drawer and bowls/pots in the bottom drawer... not sure what's going in the middle yet. Oven mitts and trivets? I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with all those upper cabinets. Besides some oils, vinegars, and specialty salts, I have no idea what to keep in the upper cabinet between my ovens and rangetop. I'm hoping for spice storage inspiration for there. I wish I could do a rack on the inside of the door, but the catalog I saw only had spice racks on smaller sized cabinets. Sigh. This all circles back to my original post about not knowing if I should get any 4 drawer stacks. :headtable:

You said your base cabinets are extra deep at 30". Make sure the cabinet guy knows to make the drawers inside the cabinet extra deep as well. Some of them still put the same size drawer in a deeper cabinet which wastes all that space at the back of the lovely deep cabinets !! What is the width of your two drawer stacks ? My kitchen does not follow the drawer heights rule where all the stacks line up visually around the kitchen (6 12 12 or 6 6 6 12). Although, something that helps is that my stacks are caddy-cornered across the kitchen with appliances and base cabinets with doors separating them ... it would be very hard to look in any direction where you could see the "mis-matches" at one time. I have 2 stacks that are 6 12 12 and 2 stacks that are 6 6 9 9. The 12's are good for storing pans and bakeware vertically (see link below that has LOTS of pics in post on Mon, Sep 24, 12 at 10:18). I also love the bottom two 9's in the other stacks which are useful where a 6 would have been too shallow and a 12 would have been too deep. Another way you can gain an inch or more in your main drawers is to decrease the height of your toe kick to 3.5". Aliris19 did that in her kitchen. But, that would make your toekick drawers more shallow, so it depends on what you plan to put in yours. I have also seen where some people have made the toe kick part of the bottom drawer. It follows the contours so the front 4" of the bottom drawer is more shallow and the rest of the drawer is deeper into the toe kick space. I hope that explanation makes sense ? I only have one wide stack, and I split the top in two - like Lisa_a, they are used for different things. One is potholders, which gets used all the time; the other is the junk/tool drawer, which is used far less (and at non-kitchen times). It may have been weird/awkward opening a 34" drawer ever time I needed a potholder. I would let function dictate. If you are using them both for similar things, definitely one.
