Comments (24)You guys are so kind! Thank you. kirkhall - I once lived in a house with cultured marble, so I'm somewhat of an expert :) That felt like plastic, while this product feels exactly like natural stone, but with a perfectly smooth finish. I wouldn't say it looks identical to marble because the veining in marble is just different. What I like about this is that the background is less gray than in most of the marble I looked at, yet it looks more natural than some of the other quartz products. My husband likes that it's ...almost... white. And it was important that it is pretty bulletproof. Yes, it feels good to the hand. Pental makes this product, enduring. It's called Chroma Quartz, and Lattice is the name of the color/pattern. It was not on my short list but I kept visiting the same stoneyard for remnants, and this turned up one day. I bought it on the spot, and am so happy I did. It turns out to be nearly an exact match for my faux marble flooring, so I'm just in a happy little faux paradise! sofla - This is 3 cm thickness, so about 1 inch. They didn't need to build up the edges, since this was 3 cm stone....See MorePlease help with Countertop - 2 choices!
Comments (45)Sorry for the late response! We have a lot of family visiting for the holiday and I couldn’t get to a computer… Beautybutdebtfree- Good idea!! We will probably use the uba tuba for the fireplace hearth and surround, and possibly mantel too. Hopefully it will coordinate well w/ the kitchen. Thank you! Skyangel23- Thanks :-) I have been looking at the black trash bags a lot, just walking through the kitchen and really like the look :-) I did order a bunch of light and dark samples from wilsonart and formica but don’t remember if I got any of the 180x series. I thought of doing the silgranit overmounts, but they didn’t a large single bowl for our island sink. :-) Just the diamond series which had the curved back side and offset faucet hole… May_flowers - Thanks! I hope so :-) We have until Tuesday to decide for sure :-) Enduring- The slabs we tagged were polished- not sure if they can change that in the fabricating process/or if there’s an upcharge (probably)? I haven’t looked into the benefits/downsides of those- will look it up on here. :-) Whenever I think there couldn’t possibly be any more choices, there are haha. Nosoccermom- I love the adjectives you used- a combination of rustic, sophisticated, and organic is definitely what I’m going for :-) Hope to find a good balance! Thanks for the link too- I’ll check it out :-) Hyny2- It is good to know about the wipe marks and have that expectation going in! Thanks! I usually use hot pads (we have laminate now), but I had heard hot pots don’t damage granite too much- but it will be better to be safe than sorry! Will definitely use hot pads- thanks! Serindipitypoo- Sorry I can’t help too much w/ this!! I too don’t know what I am doing! If you start a new thread more people might see and be able to offer advice- if you go to the main gardenweb kitchen page, scroll to the bottom and you will see the new post form. Thank you again everyone for such thoughtful help and suggestions! If anyone has an example of a honed vs. polished uba tuba countertop I would love to see it!...See MoreMy new countertop pics, finally! Wilsonart HD
Comments (20)Southernstitcher and mamalynn - I am thinking of adding in a strip of glass tiles into the tumbled travertine, so I might work the blue in there. happyladi - I forgot to mention that I do plan on adding hardware! I am torn about the finish, though. I chose the light fixtures before I knew I'd be getting SS appliances and now I am not in love with them and am thinking of replacing them. Not sure what finish to choose for those and the hardware, though. desertsteph - I am certain they will all be shaking their heads at us in 20 years! That silly leg wasn't even screwed in from below. It had one screw in it through the cab above it. I am 5'5" tall and there is 16" of space from the top of the counters to the bottom of the microwave. I have no trouble putting things in or taking them out. It's actually almost the same height as an OTR one would be. That shelf isn't my favorite part of the kitchen, but I'm dealing with it. Once we get a matching microwave, I think it will help more. I've also considered asking a cabinet maker friend to build a appliance garage door for it, but I'm not sure about it. patsyklein - I am really happy with that rounded edge since I was worried I'd be hitting my hip on it if it was squared off. We used Carl Beuhner Countertops in Salt Lake City for the fabrication and install. My only complaint is that the deck of the sink where the faucet is installed doesn't seem very heavy gauge. It's my fault for not asking to see the sink they agreed to provide, though. Right now the faucet can rock a bit. It's securely attached to the deck, but the deck flexes, if that makes sense....See MoreBlue Pearl Granite Countertops...FINALLY!!!
Comments (14)Detroit_Burb, I've been thinking about under cabinet lighting now that the backsplash is up and things look a little darker than I expected. Do you remember the flourescent lighting you went with that you liked? And, how hard/intrusive was it to install? Thank you in advance! ~Shayerah...See MoreLinda Doherty
