Delosperma 'Fire Spinner' IS impressive!
Comments (8)Wow firespinner is really impressive! I have Lavender Ice and another more dark purple one can't remember the name. Last year I didn't have a single bloom. Mine started out the same size as yours and this year the 6 plants I had in the ground created a carpet covering the entire ground stretching at least 8 feet long. They bloomed profusely this spring but then we had about 2 weeks of rain and have only had a handful of flowers show up here and there since then. Either way I love the way it creates a thick, interesting, groundcover. Really does prefer dry conditions though. Give it some time and next year I am sure you will be very impressed....See MoreVery impressed with the Mammoth Mum series
Comments (67)rouge - It is interesting to see how these are evaluated across the pond, but I wonder how that translates to our very different climate? I noticed in the report, it was mentioned their trial garden experienced one of the lowest winter temps in recent years: -17 C which equals around 1.4 F. As we all know, that's not considered very cold around here. I also noticed they mentioned a couple of pest problems I have never heard of. Come to think of it, I can't recall mums in my garden having any issues with pests other than rabbits. Still, an interesting read. Of the ones awarded in their garden trials, I have one - Ruby Mound. It is a nice plant and for a long time was one of my favorites, but I've discovered others I like better. Kevin...See MoreMEIclusif Dee-Lish hybrid tea rose

Comments (17)YEARS ago I grew some Sweet William (d. barbatus) and really loved it. Such a cheerful little powerhouse. But for some reason I stopped growing it. I've tried growing other dianthus here and there over the years but nothing really impressed me (or should I say I did not grow it very well lol) Last year I was seduced by photos and descriptions of Chabaud la France and Benigna. I bought seed, and while my germination was good, I didn't have great success with it - although if I'm being honest I could have given it more attention. Then just yesterday I had an email fromFloret and clicked on a link about growing carnations, and was surprised to see both those above varieties highly recommended for cutting. I don't know why I was so surprised - after all, every single bouquet in the world has at least one carnation in it haha! But those are so long-stemmed and big-bloomed, and my (very limited) experience with "home garden" carnations was so different - all so short and small-bloomed (including those two above). I never really thought of my garden carnations being used in a typical bouquet (only small nosegay bouquets). So once again, I guess it all comes down to my gardening practices, or lack there of lol. I am so very much a plant-it-and-forget-it gardener, because I don't have enough time to garden, and I guess that catches up with me. Although reading through above I'm wondering if location may have had something to do with my less than stellar results too. And any dianthus I've grown, I've always treated as an annual. :) Dee...See Morepat_bamaz7
