Good news. A reason, and a plan of action, always so helpful. That before stage with all the question marks is pretty uncomfortable. Keep up a healthy diet while you rest and mend, try to include some foods heavy in calcium too. Happily we are both milk drinkers here, but we do both take a Vit D supplement. We're outdoor people, not especially good about sunscreen and both of us still showed low Vit D levels years ago, we've taken a supplement daily ever since. Let's hope you can finish up this year in good health.

I can't understand why the doctor didn't check your vit D levels and also testostrone. levels...these are very important readings before treating.

I, too, recommend taking Vitamin D3 supplements. The brand I take is BIO TECH, and I order them from Amazon.

Paw, men can develop this from low testosterone levels..this is a common cause why men develope brittle bone.

Good news, Scott! Now you and Logan can relax and concentrate on healing. You might want to try to increase your intake of other dairy products, too, cottage cheese, yoghurt, etc. My doctor has me on prescription vitamin D capsules, one capsule once a week. You might check with him about adding that to your regimen. But mostly, just be careful and eat healthy.

Pawprint, your diagnosis and resulting treatment plan should be enough for your insurance to cover your scan as medically necessary too, not view it as preventative standard screening guidelines which place you too young.

Your doctor may even want another in approx. 6 - 18 months, compare to the first to see if you are still losing density, or loss that took place during your course of prednisone and has stabilized or even improved with the Boniva.

(my own endo insisted on same Dexa machine, same technician (!) for closest comparative measurements possible)

Morz, yes, doctor said we'll be doing regular bone scans to see if there is improvement.

Mama, I do have low T and tried Androgel but it had bad side effects for me. So I don't take anything for it.

Believe me, they've taken 5 quarts of blood & urine. I've been tested lots.

I'll be looking into vitamin D.

An interesting side note, maybe. DH ( age 82) has had low testosterone levels with no concern...but recently it was suggested that his "just tired" and "really exhausted " feeling was due to those low levels. He has had two injections, ready for a third, and he walked around Costco several days ago, without wanting to die. He also looks so much better.....it's just good to have him back and not feeling so tired 24/7.

Low testosterone in men is the most common cause of brittle bones in men. ..Paw, your doctor should address this as it will often stop the progression.

Pleased to hear that you've found more information, and that things are going reasonably well, hoof (as, last I heard, hooves have more calcium than paws).

When I was on radiation, through most of Jan and Feb, the cancer doc put me on calcium and D3. Still on them and my doc has upped the dosage ... plus put me on iron (not enough stiffness in my backbone, maybe?).
