Design question, Emser Eclipse Tile -- anyone use it? Reviews?

For instance: even though the fixtures aren't specifically intended for fluorescents, we decided to use CFLs in our master bath. We have both bright-white and daylight (daylight in the downlights, bright white in the sconces closer to our faces) and they have *very* different effects on all the colors in the room, including our skin. I'm guessing that if you like the Alabama White in the large-window room, you want something with a higher CRI (and consider the kelvin factor if you choose cfls) than the bulbs you have tried the Alabama White with so far. Maybe you want to get some samples of colors on posterboard or watercolor paper, and look at them with different kinds of light bulbs in the fixtures to see what works best. We went through this with the light over our dining table recently. Comparison of the micromini/mini-twister bulbs from Lowes: Daylight (6500K) was *too* blue for dining ease, but when I put them in my office lamp they're wonderful; they make me feel like there's a window in my dark little corner :). Bright white was just right (3500K), and 'soft white' (2700K) was so *red* it gave me a headache and made my eyes play tricks on me. The higher Kelvin number was better for us. (HD had only the soft white, not the others.) I love that painting, btw -- so dynamic! I love somewhat expressionistic takes on landscapes. (I also love non-representational art, but there's always a soft spot in my heart for the landscape) The sky is fascinating. Do you know the artist? (btw, I just have to wonder to whom BM was marketing that paint color -- having just seen a documentary on the Freedom Riders, the name 'Alabama White' doesn't seem any too complimentary to me...maybe you can rename it something less 'incendiary'?)...See MoreShiloh Cabinets - quality - and other ?
Comments (65)In my opinion, the 5/8" thick drawers are fine! With the smooth drawer guides today, a 3/4" thick box doesn't make it function any better. It's more of a looks and feel thing. Back in the olden days, when drawers were "wood on wood" or had poor drawer guides, a strong dovetailed drawer box was very important. Not as much today. A 5/8" drawer box is fine. I've heard that that 5/8" is going to become the new standard. There is one difference between Shiloh's 5/8 and 3/4 options though....it may or may not be a big deal to you. But the 3/4" are finished nicer. They are sanded better and smoother and have a clearcoat on them after they are assembled. With the 5/8" thick boxes, they are cut and clear coated and then assembled...which makes them not as smooth. Does that make sense? Most of my clients, upon seeing both options, go with the 5/8" due to the $ savings. A small minority go with the 3/4 upgrade....See MoreSomeone with Shiloh frameless cabinets- please help me!!
Comments (46)Cabinet margins run 30-50%. 20% discount would be on the low % for such a major snafu, but it leaves them making enough out of the sale to actually care and respond if you have an issue down the road. If you strip all of their profit out of the sale, that's much less likely to be the case. One option that could be offered is upgrading to some of the things that you cut out to make budget. Whatever that might be, if it were easy to add post install. Like a fancier crown, or that double tiered cutlery divider....See MoreHelp- Shiloh Cabinet Heritage question
Comments (0)Quick question- for a three drawer base unit using the beaded inset option, if we elect a flat face instead of 5-panel, does that make all three drawers flat face or would just the top drawer be flat faced? PS we are looking to build on our family farmstead that have a limestone barn from 1748. Thinking of arctic white maple heritage using Silas grey as the accent color for hood RH14 and the center island toying with idea of oak for the hood and island to have the heavy grain give more of an historic feel to the hood being a converted cooking fireplace and the island having that heft/sense of a farm house oak table. (Glaze, sand through and distress for the silas grey oak pieces to give that sense of age with just a glaze or no glaze to the white feeling like a later addition to the kitchen) we have a modern take on a Hoosier cabinet planned that I'm pretty excited about Thanks for the help!...See Morecpartist
