The woods across the street were being taken over by English Ivy, Wisteria & Honeysuckle. I've been trying to pull out what I can while leaving plants, shrubs and trees that are beneficial to wildlife. I've been amazed to find out just how many plants, shrubs and trees out there provide food for birds and other wildlife. If it were not for what I've learned here on GW, I would have never taken on such a task. We're fortunate and blessed to have the woodland area across the street. It is my hope that the property owner never sells it. I'm not so sure that one person can win the battle against English Ivy, Chinese Honeysuckle and Wisteria. Anyway, the knowledge you've shared here has motivated me to put forth some elbow grease in an effort to preserve the woods across the street. I've only made a dent. Bboy, I tip my hat to you...5 out of 6 in no time flat. Yes, I can always count on you. You've taught me a lot. Oh, Bboy, if you read this...chestnut, any idea about whether or not it's the native kind? I've been looking at images on the web and I'm still not sure. Actually, I was really blown away by that one. I couldn't help but think about, "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire." Never thought about having chestnuts in GA. Yes, I have a lot to learn. (LOL) Thank you! Bubbleoffplumb, trust me, I've dug up, cut up and removed a lot of wisteria. I don't think I'll win the battle against the wisteria in the woods. Those plants will send off a shoot that reaches 40 feet or more into the woods. I appreciate your input; however, after some web searching, bboy is right again (I just don't know what kind it is yet.) Thank you for trying to help me out, it was nice of you. Fatamorgana, Phytolacca americana, pokeweed is what I was hoping for for some reason. I think the birds love the berries it produces and I'm trying to help the birds. Personally, I think it's an interesting plant. I'll be watching it to see if it produces those berries later on in the year. Thanks to all! This is my favorite forum. I had a couple of pink flamingos in my yard for awhile. I named them 'Tongue' and 'Cheek'. They finally died. I think of,embarrassment.

Yeah, I have to sometimes dust my real plants, but I just wash the leaves with a wet rag. They like it. Plant massage. :) I don't have a lot of house plants (year round garden outside, right now choking with roses). Although I own a fake cactus, it was part of an art project. I have an antherium on my bathtub ledge that is currently blooming. It usually gives me one bloom in July. It might be happier elsewhere, but it's been fine there for 14 years. :) It was a present from she who was the lady next door when I was a child. There's a garden window in my kitchen where I had a lot of plants before they got ants. They went outside. Now it has several phalaenopsis that were given to me in December. One may be beyond help, but two have spikes. There's also a little plant with red brachts and white flowers which perks up in the sun and droops at night, and a little red leafed plant I grew from seed, but doesn't seem so happy now that it's in a real pot. And one low light plant in the powder room, which I may need to move to more light. Plants die in the powder room, but they make it nicer, so I try to catch them before they die....

oh my ... great debate .. some relevant.. some not ... lol ... just be done with it all ... plant a bunch to replace it.. looks like you have space ... diversify ... dont plant all of one kind ... think of it this way.. just nice round numbers .... 1000 bucks to remove it all .. or..... 850 dollars to surgically remove half without damaging the rest .. and a few years later.. perhaps paying another 1000 to remove the rest ... cuz prices never go down ... for sure ... pay once.. remove.. replant ... personally i would treat the stump so the roots die.. and leave it there ... and avoid the cost of grinding ... do use someone with insurance... since you have one of those LP bombs sitting near it ... ken ps: i wish those were real prices ....
