It looks very appealing to me. Unless you simply can't stand it, my advice is to shift your attention to other elements of the project. When the framing is first completed, and when the house is initially enclosed are often two stages where many consumers get unnecessarily concerned about their new house and their selection decisions. My bet is that after you are in the house for a year you will never give this subject a second thought--except, perhaps, to congratulate yourself for making some good decisions! Keep the faith!

I agree with you, too dark.

I think it's very striking and love it. As our builder told us when making our selections be sure in your choices because people are going to talk either good or bad. You have to ❤️ It not others.

I really like it too. It is striking without being too much. I think you'll love it once everything comes together.

I really like it, and it reminds me of Nantucket homes, with their dark cedar shakes.

But it really comes down to what you are going for. I'm not sure what you mean about the trim, as the picture on my monitor shows the trim as looking more cream-colored as is. And it looks nice, but I would personally go with bright white against the house. If you mean the window mullions, then I think the black works, but I would go with bright white there as well to make the windows pop.

Please leave it as is! It looks wonderful. A white would look too stark against the dark stain. The stain and trim color work together beautifully. As Virgil said, leave it now and my guess is a year from now you'll love it too.

I'm an artist and from experience I can tell you that every time I get about 1/2 way through a drawing, I feel as you are feeling now with your house. I second guess what I've already done and if it's any good. It's human nature to do so. Thankfully with 99% of my drawings when I finish, I like them again.

Not what I would pick for my own house, but it looks fine for a dark colored house. Looks like your lots is open and sunny, which will help. A dark wooded lot with a dark house would be depresssing for me.

Looks lovely, IMO. Leave it for now and see how you feel after some time has passed. It is darker than you envisioned, so you are reacting negatively now. But maybe after some time you will get used to the darker color and realize that it, too, looks quite good.

Some examples of dark wood with white windows. It might not be the look you want. But it is a beautiful look if you do.

Thanks for the feedback! There will be shakes on the house, but this is all that's finished so far. There will also be stone and stained beams. The trim does look almost cream colored in that one photo.

I love it. So much so that it's one of the colors and brands that I am considering but in the shake siding. Leave it and if you really don't like it in a year or so then go back and repaint your trim. But, I'm betting you won't want to.

I like it. It's striking and not run of the mill yet still classic. What I'm seeing as somewhat problematic is scale, although it may not be an issue in person. The trim color is fine to my eye but seems to be too small in scale next to the beefy window sash and mullions. OTOH, that's part of what makes the look a modern interpretation of a classic and would lose that vibe if the trim were larger scale. Short answer - leave it. It's part of your whole vision. Trust that.

DLM2000, agreed on the scale of the trim. We wanted to go with 6" and the builder talked us into the 4".

rmverb - but remember we're picking at that element in isolation. Get the shake and the stone up before focusing further on the trim. You have other elements coming that will help with balancing where the eye wants to focus. We JUST passed that part in our build so it's fresh in my mind how easy it is to not see the forest for the trees - have faith.

Couple more photos as the siding goes up. All bumpouts will be getting the shake as well as standing seam metal roof. The bumpout under the porch with the french doors will get stone. The ceiling under the roof will be tongue & groove and all the beams will get stained. There will be a stone fireplace at the end of the porch. All doors will get stain.
