Need feedback on KOBE Range Hood
Comments (24)I was seeing too many reviews of Kobe owners having mechanical problems, especially at about the 5 year mark with their switches. As another reviewer noted, I also don't like that they seem to be frequently tweaking their range hood features and designs. My decision was to go with Imperial as I wanted reliability. Imperial is made in the US and warranty their better range hoods for 7 yrs. Their folks were always available to answer questions and seemed to be honest when discussing the negatives of some of their models. My installer had a question regarding the schematics and was promptly put through to their chief engineer. Imperial also had more options available. The light and fan switch are continuously variable rather than having a specific number of settings. I also selected the option of having the switches wired remotely, separate from the range hood. So far, I'm happy with my decision....See MoreFeedback on BlueStar/AmericanRange/Prestige
Comments (5)There used to be someone on the board who had (I'm forgetting exactly) some variety of non-fireproof backsplash behind island trim. I want to say it was a low rise to a bar behind the cooktop. It scorched pretty nicely. The installation manual says: "If the island trim option is used without the 6" clearance recommended, a non-combustible rear wall extending a minimum of 6" below the countertop must be used. In no cases will we accept responsibility for claims which may result from heat damage to a rear wall or counter, including cosmetic damage. It is the responsibility of the owner/end user to ensure that the material used in such applications is not only non-combustible, but is also truly heat resistant." I wouldn't take that lightly. Our backguard scorched from putting a big tamale steamer on the 22k burner. That or using a wok in back will throw out a lot of heat further away from the burner than you'd think....See MorePrestige Range Hood Opinions
Comments (4)Prestige are very good hoods. Used to be very popular here on GW but a dealer that is quite popular here switched to Modern-Aire. Not because of the quality of Prestige simply because they made a hood specific to this dealer and a better business proposition. Prestige is made by Prizer Stove Works. They also make Bluestar Ranges and Hoods as well as what used to be called Independent Hoods but is now Prizer Hoods. I bought an old Independent hood from a liquidator and had Prizer make me a one off custom flue. First rate quality. I ordered when they just restarted Independent as Prizer, within a week of reopening for business. They told me it would take 4-6 weeks but they took 14 weeks. They gave me free shipping and some minor accessories as compensation. If you have a local Bluestar or Prizer Hoods dealer you can check out those hoods there. Same thing made in Reading Pennsylvania....See MorePrestige insert hood owners?????
Comments (4)For CLINRESGA First of all, you should never vent ANY exhaust into your attic unless you want to ask for MAJOR trouble. Prestige hoods offer several options. Blower pkgs & hood types. For an attic installation, you would use an IN-LINE BLOWER, not an internal blower (built into the hood area) nor a remote blower (mounted on a pitched roof, exterior wall, or flat roof.) An IN-LINE BLOWER allows you to plumb the ductwork into the attic, where the unit is mounted, then continue the ductwork to the exterior. BE SURE YOU CAN PLUMB for the proper ducting. A 1200 CFM unit uses 10" metal round duct all the way from the hood to the blower & out. This is METAL DUCT, not flex duct. If you can't plumb for that then you have to exchange the same capacity for square duct. Prestige offers a 6 x 15 transition that will allow you to go from the 10" round duct to a 6 x 15 square duct. You'll need one for each end. Part # 6X15TR/10RD I've included a link to their site for the blower packages. Here is a link that might be useful: Prestige-America BLOWER PACKAGES...See Morekaseki
