Gray Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color Ideas with Ella Quartz Countertops

We are installing painted cabinets in our kitchen. We have already chosen Cambria Ella quartz countertops. We looked at a sample of Grey Owl from Benjamin Moore, and really liked the painted light gray look, but were looking for any additional light gray suggestions. Thanks for your help!

You might consider SW "Repose Gray". I love mine!

I'm quite certain we have SW Repose Gray throughout our main level and it's a solid true gray. We also tried samples of Grey Owl and a few others but Repose Gray was the best in our home. Make sure you get a few sample cans and paint 2 coats on foam core boards (or similar) so you can move them around the room during different parts of the day in order to pick the best color for your space.

I thought I might post some images that you can see different combinations with grayand light stains. Last week while at the supermarket (waiting in line) I saw some pictures in a magazine (I think Martha Stewart, but not sure) gustavian gray peices with light stained woods. Your ideas of putting the white counters tops with a gray floor and a stained gray or natural wood sounds yummy. I agree that the wall color is off and would go for something that is more of a soft white with less pink in it. I know there is a pinky beige in your counter but you don't have to bring out all of the countertop tones and I think anything beige is going to clash with the cherry. Our old kitchen had cherry cabinets and Ben Moore maritime white walls. I loved the walls so much, when we got our new kitchen, we had cabinets made in that color.

Are your floors stained on-site hardwood or did they come pre-finished? I’m asking because I really like how your kitchen has turned out - and I’m thinking about being a copycat (as my mom used to tell me - “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery“ - every time my younger sister would “copy” me - ex. I cut 6” off my hair - 4 days later my sister got the same exact haircut). I might have missed it - but what did you go with for your backsplash? Oh - and I know that you already had your countertops but . . . Are they quartz or marble? Everything really looks nice. I may go a with a little “moodier” blue on my island - but I really like yours too. i just looked back through your photos - the blue island has so many looks depending upon light!

You have such a wonderful opportunity when doing a remodel. Contrast is exciting but the more contrast, the busier and likely more crowded and smaller your kitchen will look. I'm with Calidesign on continuing the maple onto the island. If the only decision you can still make is the countertop, definitely use the same on both types of cabinets. In choosing colors, colors closer in value (level of light and dark) can add dimension without looking as busy. Note in the kitchen above that they've used a muted blue with the wood.. not a dark blue. But also note where your eye stops. It's at that black hood and range -- due to the contrast. And the same would be true on the dark countertop if there weren't so many reflections. As for the countertops, I opted for a very high-end natural quartzite because it's less porous than granite and I wish I had chosen a quartz product. Stone varies so much and can stain very easily in lighter colors, even those touted as being non-porous. Good luck with your renovation!

Thank you both. We are a little nervous because it is the cabinet color, so will be a lot harder to change than the walls!

No worries. I should have been clearer. We are getting painted cabinets and we have the choice of any color. Grey Owl looked really nice as a painted cabinet but I thought the Ella quartz would look better with a warmer gray. We will definitely test out the Repose Gray.

Well, the Cambria color matching site suggests BM Distant Grey or Silver Satin.

On my monitor, I'd disagree with those choices, but BM website colors are usually off .http://www.cambriacanada.com/Designs/Paint-Match-Tool/

Thanks! I did not like them in person either. The paint store would not even make a Silver Satin sample because it was too close to the base white.

I saw a photo today of cabinets painted SW Night Owl. It is darker but they were gorgeous. I have also seen photos of cabinets painted Mindful Gray and they were super pretty. That is a definite warm gray.

SW Agreeable Grey is a warm grey. Grey Owl seems the cleanest grey.
