Improvements in blinds between the glass options?

Carrie Z

I am remodeling my kitchen and replacing a large window with sliding doors. The opening is 8 feet wide. We need to shade the very bright setting sun through the doors. I think blinds in the doors would be the best way to go because they would not get dirty and they would not get in the way.

I've read complaints about the blind mechanism breaking or that they can not be insulated as well as regular windows. These were from posts that are a few years old at this point. I was wondering if there have been any improvements recently and I am looking for brand recommendations. Anyone have feedback on Andersen Permashield 200 series with blinds between the glass?
