Is this a fair quote for a Marvin BiFold door?

I have been working through a contractor who has close connections to a Marvin distributor, and has so far been pretty fair on his pricing for about 10 windows and a sliding glass door for a sunroom project I have.

The final piece of this project is deciding if we want to do a Marvin BiFold door between the breakfast area and the sunroom. It is a 9' opening (6'8" high). I was expecting to have to pay around $900/LF, so $8k or so, plus $2k for install.

The quote I received back was for $13,735.

Below is the breakdown. I don't have a problem paying for quality, but I am thinking the door price itself is high compared to what I expected. Am I wrong? Or is this a pretty accurate price for this door?

- Remove and dispose of existing patio door

- Frame new door opening to fit new door

- New interior and exterior casing

- Shim and foam new patio door

- Paint interior panels and casing

- Paint or Stain exterior cedar

+1. Those units are not cheap by any stretch, but you do get a really nice door.

These types of doors are very susceptible to installation errors. They require considerably more precision than a typical window or door installation. Most of the issues found with these units are due to installation. With that in mind, be sure your installer is well aware of these challenges. If they haven't installed one before, Marvin offers classes to installers free of charge. They can contact their dealer for more info. "The only damage is to the pocketbook" I'm stealing this phrase sometime in the future..... :)

Got a bid from Marvin doors $17k (Wood) and Panoramic Doors (Vinyl) $10k for a 10’ by 8’ door. Panoramic doors have 10 year warranty and customer service so far has been amazing! Seeing the Marvin door in person I was extremely unimpressed especially for the price. I like the fact that it was explained that Panoramic doors carry the weight at the bottom not the top. I was originally concerned about overall structure with such a large door. I’m finding it hard to reach anyone at Nana wall and getting a quote online is a pain.

Thanks for your responses. I definitely am not expecting any sort of bargains, that's for sure! I'm more curious about the screens. We have the retractable screens in our casement windows and sometimes they snag. I'm wondering that will be a bigger issue when using them on such a large scale opening?

Good side is that it means my window guy is legit and looking out for me, bad side is that I now have to spend $13K (:eek:) to get the look I wanted with this room. He was pretty clear that part of it is they will need to beef up the structure to support the doors.

It is a beautifull door and you will not be disappointed at all.
