Placement of door handles?

Any rule of thumb? I know these handles would not typically go with this cabinet style. But I like what I like :)

Suggestions?

I would place them so that the bottom edge of pull lines up with bottom of the trim on cabinet door. So a little bit farther down than in your first picture. Hope I described it right. I tried to find a photo to illustrate....

If you like them, they fit and don't cause a problem then that is the answer. They are in your kitchen pick what you like. I went with flat black handles on dark cabinets and I absolutely love them! See you can do it.

If the surface you are drilling into / installing pulls onto is curved, then it sounds like you'll want to countersink the holes for the pulls so that the legs of the pulls are embedded into the stiles rather than having edges sticking up. I believe this could be accomplished with a Forstner bit that makes a flat bottomed recess with a small starter hole where you would drill a regular, smaller hole for the screw to go through. I think that's a job for a skilled installer rather than an average DYI, but never having done it I could be wrong.

My kd had the bottom start at three inches above the bottom edge and the same with knobs. I like the pulls placed that way but with the few knobs that I have I would have rather seen the knobs a bit lower. I do agree that there is no right or wrong just what you prefer.

Thanks everyone for the advice and photos--I actually held the handle in my hand and did a version of sue36's test, "Pin the handle on the panel", and we were able to determine a comfortable height for us this way. Marcy, though I didn't think of grip clearance before I ordered my handles, fortunately there is enough space. Pllog, yes, as long as it opens...considering it has been installed and yet panel-less for going on two weeks, opening it will be quite nice! Shanghaimom, how is your Thermador working for you? I remember your kitchen, it is truly lovely!

A lot depends on the panel design. You'd want to center it within the border if there is one.

I have the exact same pulls I think! We lined up the bottom post to the top of the bottom rail.

I did what anitamo said- bottom edge to bottom of trim. sorry I can't find a better picture.
