Our king size mattress is getting on in years, about 14, as I recall. I've read reviews over the years both on this site and elsewhere. We went mattress shopping about a year ago, and I swear my head was spinning.

So the other day in Costco there was a close out sale on the king size 3" memory foam mattress topper. Didn't buy it, but it was a very good price. I do not like the memory foam pillow we tried, so I was hesitant about buying a pad in that form.

Any recommendations for a topper? Is gel a better choice? Is a new mattress a better choice? Obviously, these are subjective choices, but I'd like to hear your collective experience.
