Yeah I'm not following what you're saying either. My method to gauge when to remove keiki's is three roots of finger length. Do not "pluck" them off, make two cuts of the old flower stem, leaving the keiki still stuck to a piece of the old flower stem. How many leaves they have isn't a worry.

Thank you, Quinnfyre. That is indeed one unusual production of kiekis!! Looks like the plant is on steroids! Has it received any hormones, such as KLN or superthrive? It is surprising that the plant is supporting both a vigorous bloom spike AND numerous offspring. Enjoy!

Are you referring to Globba schomburgkii 'Yellow Dancing Girl'? The babies are sprouting from little bulbous that didn't fall from the infloresecence and you cetainly may plant them. They will actually drop from the plant and sprout all over the place. Two different Globbas will do that. Costus will also sprout kikis from the inflorescence and one Hedychium also does this Hedychium 'greenii'. Hope this has been of some help. Liz

Leave the kiki's (proliferations) on the scape as long as possible. As long as the scape is green underneath the prolif. it is being fed. One way to prolong the scape life is to set a seed pod on the scape. When the roots are 1" long or longer you can plant them. I like to stick them next to the mother plant which makes it easier and quicker. I have sawdust mulch (from cat litter) around my daylilies so the prolifs stay moist because of the mulch. If your ground gets too dry at times you should cut them and put them in water with the water just above or at the crown area of the prolif. Change the water frequently and be sure to label the prolif if you have them from more than one cultivar.
