Gas fireplace inserts: Mendota vs heat & glo

I have narrowed it down to these 2 models. Heat & Glo Escape I30 vs. Mendota FV 33i.

The Heat & glo option is cheaper. I liked the flame and look of the Mendota and willing to spend a little more for that. Looks are important but functionality and reliability is more of an issue.

Background info:

My house is super small (800 sqft total) and I live in the san francisco bay area so not extreme weather. I currently have an old Williams gas wall heater as my only heat for the house and it is okay except for the worst 2 months. But aside from being ugly it is noisy and is really on it's last leg.

My fireplace opening is pretty large compared to the size of the space it should heat. The front opening is 36 wide by 28 high. and the area to heat is about 350+ square feet with 8.5ft ceiling.

I have no experience with these units so research is my only friend.

Is there anything else I should consider before making my decision. I have read almost every post on this subject and have visited 4 places and have gotten quotes. II truly appreciate your help.
