Comments (30)1. What are you wearing right now? Black shorts, white t-shirt, black cardigan and black socks because DH has the AC turned too d@mn cold after working outside in the heat washing wood dust off the house after almost finishing the porch steps our handyman bungled last summer (just caulking, lattice on the sides, and last coat of paint left). 2. What have you eaten so far today? Nothing. I'm kind of in a not-eating phase again. Not trying to lose weight or go back into anorexic behaviors, just the thought of food varies between indifference (absolutely nothing appeals to me) and utter disgust. 3. What is today's high temperature where you live? Hot enough so that I won't be able to go outside for more than a few minutes (and will be like that for the next several days)... I can get heatstroke in less than half an hour if the temp hits 90 degrees even with gallons of ice water and shade, and can sunburn in a matter of minutes even with super-high SPF sunscreen. I hate July and August. 4. Have you eaten Watermelon yet this Summer? No good watermelons here yet (it'll probably be early to mid-August before they start showing up), and the spongy flavorless pink things they sell at the supermarket give me the trots (TMI!). 5. What animal are you most like and why? Possibly a bear. A bit slow, likes its den, tends to be quite grumpy if disturbed. 6. Now that you're grown up, what career would you like to have, even if you don't have the brains or money for it? I won't grow up! LOL (Actually, being a sex educator for the disabled - and most definitely not just spinal cord injury patients - would be great fun.) 7. Who was your favorite celebrity as a child? Can't remember. Honest. Wasn't into any kind of celebrity stuff until I started junior high and discovered New Wave/New Romantic music, and then I was mad for about 37 different people! 8. What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you? A total stranger in a jewelry shop gave me a heavy gold and garnet (antique mine-cut garnets) pentacle ring she had had made about a decade before. She said she simply knew it was time to pass it on to someone else and that I was to be its new owner. I wear it when I'm "priestess-ing". Someday I'll know when it's time for it to leave me and go on to someone else, and it'll tell me when I meet that person. 9. What word describes you best? Unpredictable. If you were another person, would you be friends with you? Likely not. I know I'm rather hard to handle, between being physically and mentally ill (have to cancel plans at last minute, limit my activities, leave visits/events early, etc., and can never tell when I'm going to swing from one point in the bipolar spectrum to another, or what will kick it off) and not one of those "inspirational" and "courageous" *barf* types who make the "temporarily able-bodied" *snicker* feel less uncomfortable....See MoreThis weeks GTKY
Comments (27)Before I play: Oakley, thanks for doing these little fun surveys! I usually don't like stuff like this but yours are a nice breezy online diversion. And I love learning odd tidbits about others on the forums. Do you have a nickname? My former (for almost 30 years) and much loved boss always called me 'Annie'. Nobody else does; a former and much un-loved stepmother had that name and my family knows better! From formerboss though, I never minded. My family sometimes calls me the dutchess (see answer to ordinal family position for explanation). My sisters also have another in-joke nickname for me. Years ago on usenet during a dust up somebody referred to me online as 'hatefulness'. So they will tease me occasionally when I've ripped somebody a new one by hauling that nickname out. Can you whistle an actual tune? Yep Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket? Nope Are you an only, a first born, a mid-kid, or the baby? First born. In so many, many ways. Oldest of 5 sisters, and one brother. See nickname question above :). Who was the first person who ever broke your heart? My first serious boyfriend. He was my 'first' in, ahem, every way. So glad I never married him though. We would never have lasted. Can you touch your nose with your tongue? No Wiggle your ears? No Raise one eyebrow independently of the other? Yes How old were you when you got your first kiss? ~13 YO, and the kissee sealed my preference for body types...tall, thin, rangy guys only need apply. He was, my first love/heartbreaker was and years later my wonderful husband was and still is. Can you speak a language other than English? Solamente un poquito; se habla Miami Spanish. Donde esta el bano? Un medio pizza con queso y pepperoni por favor... Name something you secretly dislike, that everyone else seems to rave about. Only one thing??? In decorating: tablescapes Otherwise: people talking about dreams-the single most BORING topic I can imagine. Theme parks and any kind of 'manufactured' fun Have you ever won a sweepstakes or contest (other than the lottery or a door prize)? Ten years ago, in the most lucky week of my life I bought my dream car, got unexpectedly tapped for my organization's highest honor and (prodded by coworkers to keep the luck running) hit for a low level lottery prize of $90. Otherwise, never, nope, nothing. Ann aka Dutchess but not Annie!...See MoreOur Own Personal Dieting Food & Drink Land Mines: a GTKY
Comments (22)1) When you're hungry and wanting a snack, are you more likely to crave a sweet or salty/spicy snack? if it's the daytime, something salty/spicy... late at night after dinner, then usually something sweet. 2) The 3 junk-type foods that are hardest for you to resist: doritos LOVE tostitos with either a good con queso dip or guacomole-i can eat many calories with those! chewy candy--swedish fish, twizzlers, gummy lifesaves, etc. or peppermint patties. 3) Complete the following sentence: Do NOT bring any ________ into this house, because I can (will?) personally eat all of it . . . or at least waaay too much! i'm really good if it's in the house UNOPENED! lol. i usually can resist opening something, but once it's open, forget it-usually doritos, etc. 4) Although you may not eat at fast food restaurants a lot, what are your 3 favorite yummy-but-not-very-good-for you foods and from where? i really hardly ever eat fast food, but if i do i tend to order the 'wraps'... mcdonalds have them and wendy's have the chicken caeser wraps which i'll eat. i'm not big into burgers and only like the fries if they're HOT and CRISPY, which is often so hit and miss that i don't bother! 5) At nicer restaurants, what 2 or 3 foods do you have to force yourself not to order? i'll often pass on the french onion soup and choose something healthier even though i LOVE a good french onion soup crock with melted cheese and crusty bread!! i love all pastas, but will steer away sometimes to order something lighter. i love a really good carrot cake and if i see someplace has one that looks REALLY good, it's hard to pass! 6) Favorite comfort foods at home that are (sigh!) yummy but fat and/or calories-wise not that great for you or your waistline? i love making/eating pasta carbonara, but only do so occasionally. love creamy soups---buying fat free half and half makes me feels better but they still often have butter...(currently have broccoli and cheese soup leftover in the fridge--YUM!!) LOVE fruit pies/cobblers. 7) Favorite drink that you wish was "no calorie"? sweet drinks like margaritas sweet wines, like white zinfandel-love it! love chocolate coffee creamers---would be great if they were 0 calorie and still tasted great!! 8) What are 3 of your favorite "more healthful foods" to (try and) fall back on when the cravings hit? i guess popcorn is better than chips, but i usually don't really fall back on it... i buy those mini flavored rice cakes and feel better about those! i often will order fish or salad in restaurants- to either avoid fat or increase my veggie consumption! will order sorbet at the end of a meal when i'm really craving a dessert, but don't want the calories. 9) Favorite more healthful drinks? peppermint tea (with honey), icewater....See MoreGTKY-it's been a while!
Comments (40)1. If you were given a $100 bill to spend on yourself-what would you do with it? Probably buy Lego set for my grandson 2. What is your favorite brand of dish soap? Palmolive 3. What is your favorite brand of laundry detergent? BioKleen Free and Clear 4. Favorite candle scent? Don't use anything scented and don't burn candles since a friend's house burned down because of one. Also don't think they are safe in earthquake country. 5. Have you ever met a celebrity? If so, who? I'm the worst celebrity conscious person ever - I just don't know who anyone is. I can't recall meeting anyone, but on my frequent trips to Santa Barbara and Montecito, I've had some crossed paths over the years. I wouldn't have known, but for the awareness of my friends there: Ate sushi next to Rob Lowe (many years ago, my first sushi experience). I didn't realize who he was (West Wing years) but when my friend quietly made me aware, I realized he was just as beautiful as on TV. Had breakfast next to Harrison Ford (who I did recognize). Stood in line at a store behind Kenny Loggins (had no idea, but my friend again filled me in). Sat on a plane next to a young man the flight attendants were going gaga over, getting autographs, etc. I had no idea who he was, but his name was Shaun or Sean and was in a famous boy band (this was probably 20 years ago). My son figured it out, now I can't recall. (I just looked it up...Boyz to Men). Maybe not a big celebrity, but I did meet Roy Yamaguchi once at Pebble Beach and was treated to dinner at his restaurant there. 6. Can you touch your nose with your tongue? Close but no cigar. 7. Have you ever ridden a)horse b)motorcycle c)helicopter? Yes, yes, no. 8. What is your favorite 'odd' food combination? Peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. 9. What is the last movie you watched? The Book Club - I am not a fan of movies at all, so seldom see them. 10. If you could go on Antiques Roadshow, what would you bring? Nothing I can think of. 11. Do you like Pina Coladas? No, I hate coconut. 12. Getting caught in the rain? No, no, no. 13. Or the smell of the ocean? Yes, yes, yes. 14. Or the taste of champagne? Yum, yum, yum! (and now you have that song as an earworm!) And I guess I don't know the song, lol....See MoreSueb20
