My New Four Winds Trees pics! (but also transplant shock worry)
Comments (14)Thanks Josh for the reply! I have them under the ledge of the patio, so they are getting some wind protection. I could put them in the greenhouse away from the fan and they would be better protected wind wise, but I think it may be still too hot for them in there? Yes Josh, I love blood oranges! I have another blood named Vaniglia Sanguigno I got from Logees when I was on vaca in CT, but it is not in fruiting stage yet. I just think blood oranges are so beautiful! And i am also excited for tasting a finger lime. The vesicles are round and the juice is suppose to just pop in your mouth. I was reading some fancy chef article or something that says because the vesicles are round and closed until bit into, the release of flavor in very intense and tasty along with the added addition of texture when it pops open. Again, the article explained it much better than I am here. I hope they have the red finger lime in the US one day. What is considered "too hot" for newly transplanted citrus? Mike, I know the worst part is the change of seasons and hauling the citrus in! I did this for years. But now I have the greenhouse and it has made a tremendous difference! For the first time i did not have to worry about leaf drop due to indoor lighting issues. If I remember correctly Mike, you have a greenhouse, but still bring them in around February when it gets real cold? I kept mine in the greenhouse all winter with heat of course. I only kept it in the low 40's on the coldest nights, sometimes even getting to the upper 30's, experimenting since it was my first year, and the citrus had no issues! I was suprised! Definitely reacted much better to the greenhouse than all the years being in my house with lights. Although I did not have the greenhouse up yet when Sandy came, which was a good thing because who knows if it would of gotten destroyed. But when Sandy came, I had my one room in the house filled with all my citrus and figs and other special plants so I would not lose them in the storm. Then, I had hauled them all back outside just to have them all hauled back inside less than a week later because of our freak Halloween snow storm! I am sure you had part of that too Mike? Oh, before I go, should I give them any epsom salts or vinegar now, or when I first fertlize over the weekend? Thanks guys! Christy...See MoreOkay, now I am worrying too much!
Comments (22)In this 4Â X 3Â X 2Â box there are a gazillion mites. There is not enough melon or bread in NC to bribe, lure or entice these stupid mites out of that box. Sometimes I stare at the surface of the compost because it looks like something alive. It moves with a sparkly, shimmery reddish tint that is like performance art. Just under the surface, the BSFLs and the EFs are busily doing their thing. This activity causes the surface to ripple and pulse. And the mites are always on the move in a chaotic traffic jam of microscopic proportions. Why do they travel, what could they hope to gain in a box of crap? Is there some positional advantage to be achieved? These are not just surface dwellers. If I turn over material in any place in the box, there are mites. Each individual mite is different from the bazillion other mites, but all are the same. All these mites are randomly careening around without a clue where they are or where they are going. These guys live here. A megabagazillion mites, several hundred of BSFLs and about 10 lbs of EFs apparently get along well enough to share a box in the garage. I add cardboard, cow manure and table scraps and I pay the light bill. I also get to watch this other world sometimes....See MoreMy bedroom decor took a u-turn now I'm lost.
Comments (27)I don't think you need to paint the bedroom furniture if you go back to the blue silk rug. With the dark and warm rug, I think it would be better in a least a cream or latte tone if not stained wood, but I think the white can work fine with a lighter rug, If the sofa doesn't need to stay, I'd probably prefer a pair of chairs and table or ottoman in front of the fireplace more than a sofa to the side, but you have the sofa. Move it over there and see how it looks under the window, whether it is too large to go across in front of the fireplace, etc. Then decide. Consider one of the round tables at that end of the room either as an end table to the sofa or between two chairs. If you want the piece under the window to be showcased, you have it in the wrong place. It has too much competition there -- a fireplace, the wood mantel, the black fire screen, a window and a dark mirror all competing with it. Is there room for it across from the bed if you also put a bench there? If not, I would try it at the end of the room where the sofa is but to one side. If you don't have anything under the spot with the painting, it could go into the corner of that wall and the wall where the sofa is. Are the drapes something you had and thought you might use or something bought for this room? You might be able to make them work, but to be honest, I'd like something lighter. Silk panels would look rich. I've seen smocked gauzy white than could take the room in a much different direction. I am guessing your French leanings would favor the silk panels.or long yardage draped across the window and down in an exaggerated scarf treatment....See MoreCross post, Accessorizing new bath and think I may have gone too far
Comments (13)thanks intially i planned for cleats but saw the rope in a blog and thought i would try it out but i should know better than to emulate blog deccor ;). The white box is my GC's idea to cover plastic plumbing while i wait for metal pipes to be installed. it slides in and out of place and is temporary. I think I might use the rope and cleat idea in my play room to clip art from because in the right setting i think it might be cute....See Moreroarah
