Liz, I think you would be OK (excepting of course the issue of seconds or fading from prolonged sun exposure in the package, etc.) I don't use colored sheets, but I would think that most bed linen manufacturers would have solved the dye lot problem. I have never seen dye-lot matching info featured either in stores or catalogues (though admittedly it is on most packages). Worst case scenario, you could always resell it on eBay and recoup most of what you paid, less fees. Do keep an eye out for seconds being sold as first quality. That's where the dye lot issues might come into play if a manufacturer noted a color-matching problem and dumped the seconds. A tip-off that the item might not be first quality would be if it is in different, non-standard, packaging or lots of the same item being offered in "new" quality but without original packaging. Of course, even with seconds, the defect might not be color-related. Instead it could minor flaws in the cloth, or crooked seams or backwards-sewn labels, or even a seasonal or stylistic decision to cancel a product line. I have lucked into more than a few "seconds" which were seconds only because they were discontinued lines. Molly~

I was taught to do it that way too. We had bedspreads in the summer,and duvets in the winter. Now that I'm officially a grown up...I never make my bed. Don't have to, don't want to, and no one can make me. I actually saw a news report not to long ago that reported that it is not good to make the bed at all....something about dust mites or something. You're supposed to let it air out during the day. It was nice to have a scientific justification for my refusal to make the bed. Oddly enough, my two sisters say they cannot get into a bed that isn't made. I have no clue of my 3 brothers preferences,but I doubt they either notice or care whether or not the wife had made the bed or not. Strange how people who were raised in the same house can have such different preferences over stuff like that. My mother gave me my old bedspread when I moved out, and I use it to curl up on the couch,but I don't put it on the bed.
