Indoor trees for a college student
Comments (11)Palm trees grow easily from seed - I find them in my yard all the time. I've seen coconut seedlings in the nurseries but have not tried to grow one indoors. I've never grown an avocado indoors - only outdoors, and they still get a lot of bugs. Rubber trees do well indoors, but they are not recommended outdoors, as they will destroy sidewalks, streets, sewers, etc. and anything that gets in their way. I grew a tamarind from seed, but that was outdoors, and so I don't know if that would work indoors, but you could try. I found the seed in some Indonesian tamarind paste that I had bought. They are pretty trees, but they also get very large. Lars...See MoreHelp Olin College students understand community gardens!
Comments (4)I have a community garden plot in Northern California. What I have been searching for and cannot find but I think would be a very useful tool in this setting is a hand cranked chipper or grinder to chop up plant matter at the end of their growing cycle. Now, I have to chop everything by hand for adding to my compost pile and it is a lot of work. I hardly ever have anything woody so it doesn't need to be like a heavy duty garden chipper but needs to grind up things like corn stalks or fava bean stalks which are both rather hard and stringy. Something battery operated would be nice as well..... I often think something like a garbage disposal could be adapted. Anyway, some kind of chopper or grinder that works without electricity or gas would be WONDERFUL...See MoreGift ideas for college student studying abroad

Our DD studied for a year in London and her weekends were busy with travel. Maybe a gift card to Harrods? Some Tube tickets? Some Euro's in his stocking?...See MoreFor those of you with college students... Cares Act
Comments (1)For us, they have to go through the financial aid office. But we had funds distributed in the spring from about $500-750 per student, so I don't know how much is left for fall. But there are other emergency funds available through the Dean of Students office....See Morelisanti07028
