Why SxS?

Personal preference. Wife had a french door model at work and she hated it. We really like the SxS that we have here but a tad small.

Spent a good part of the day researching refrigerators. Amazed to see that there just are not any dependable models with a good track record. We can put a man on the moon though!

I have a Whirlpool sxs, it is fine. However, after living with all the different choices, I still like freezer on top best.

Of course, for that price, you can buy a new whirlpool every other year for about 14 years.

Good lord, I am good LOL. If I cannot find a large enough dependable unit, there are a couple of the GE or Whirlpool units that are a bit smaller and we can get two of them for what we'd pay for a larger and perhaps less dependable unit.

If you have the space you can replicate the side by side effect going for a Frigidaire Pro/Electrolux Icon all fridge/freezer combo. This will give you the space you need, mounts flush (afaik), counter depth (so stuff doesn't get lost in the back or don't have to reach in too far) and the price is reasonable. Both for ~ 3600 USD or so.

We have had a Kenmore (Whirlpool) side by side for about 10 years. Ilke the features: pull out glass shelves; wine rack for one bottle; through the door ice and water; water purifier; separate thermostats for freezer and refrigerator. Problems were electronic main control board failure (twice) and Ice maker fill part. None under warrantee, but total cost was about $500. Our main problem was that we didn't measuer the space available and the cabinet, and it didn't fit. Had to modify upper cabenets and then it was a squeeze.
