Please help me with kitchen appliances

Hi everyone,

Currently my kitchen is being designed by my designer.

I am in the process of selecting appliances for my kitchen. So far here are the final selections.

Dishwasher....Bosch 800 series

Cooktop in the island.....Wolf electric (not induction) + Wolf downdraft + Wolf blower.

Fridge.....GE Profile French Door...its water + ice dispenser are inside the fridge.

Oven...single wall oven 30" GE Profile

Microwave.....GE profile....it is just a simple microwave and does not have convection feature. It is a counter-top microwave and it will be installed over this oven with its trim.

My questions are....

1...does anyone have this combo of appliances? What are your experiences about these appliances?

2...does anyone notice the difference of stainless steel color and finish of these 3 brands or do they blend in nicely?

Any help will be appreciated.

Agree w/ Lilysmom. I also have mixed appliances, all different brands, no noticable difference in the ss.

Why would you get electric over induction?

Also are you stuck putting your cooktop in the island? It's usually one of the worst places to put it.

He loves Kitchen Aid. I pushed for Electrolux as an option. Jenn-Air came up only when he realized that due to current rebates, he could get me some higher options for a similar price. Only thing he does not carry is GE due to some local competition reasons. What brands would you want to see as my options in this price range?

Thanks for the info, maria410. I did a little research on AR and discovered it's all gas. I love my gas cooktop (wouldn't do anything else) but I've never used a gas oven before. Had you used one before you bought your AR? If not, was it a difficult adjustment? I think I'd have a hard time selling the rest of the family on a gas stove (not even sure if I'd like it). circuspeanut, we posted at the same time so I missed your kitchen (lovely!). Love the antique stove! It reminds me of the one my grandma used. Did you refurbish it or was it already done? I'm fine with my appliance color selection but dang I wish there were more choices available in white. Almost every time I think I've found the right cooktop, range or oven (haven't decided which option works best), I discover it's only offered in SS. My designer has said that we can make it work if I end up with one appliance in SS because the accent tile we're using has 1x1" squares of steely gray (along with tan, cream, white and some cool burnt sugar looking glass). Did any of you run into this same frustration?

Thank you so much, Lydiasmomma! Yes those metal cabinets with the drainboard sinks are charming. I have to admit that we were pretty hard on the enamel finish though, and the former owners must have been, too. I adored the drainboards, but not trying to keep the sink portion looking nice. Bar Keeper's Friend was the only thing that kept it decent, and even then it seemed tough on it. I about choked when I found out that the sink could have lead in it too. But then I decided we weren't going around licking it, so hey. What I'm really trying to say is, enjoy your new sink! : ) Yes, the exposed beam was absolutely structural. We had to jack up the house after we moved in, and when we did so, we watched the areas where it was pegged together (that had come loose as the house sagged) go back together tightly again. Whoa.

Oh, I like that a lot in both sizes. It's nice to see they didn't squash the glass funny when they enlarged it. There's gold highlight like my chandelier does. It's funny, I never thought of those lights as farmhouse until you mentioned it. I can see that now. I now realize I have more than one picture of farmhouse style in my mind with some I like better than others. I'll search more tomorrow too. Oh, have to tell you - I was emailing back and forth with Lightingdirect about lights (obviously) and the same guy asked me in two different, replying, emails about the same lights,"What's the project you're working on?" The first time I answered saying they were a possibility for over an island. He sent me an email with additional info I requested and I replied saying thanks. I then got another email saying your welcome and asking, again, what project I was working on. Any idea what's up with that? They've been helpful with any questions I've asked. This was the first person to do that, and I just found it strange. Maybe I'm missing something.

I'm going through this process ... and i've come to the conclusion that I don't really care. I think mixing and matching makes the most sense. Builders tend to think "streamline the look" and want to have all one brand ... but I think it's overrated.

What's underrated IMO is having all highly rated appliances, regardless of brand, that fits what you want to do. "best tool for the job" as lily'smom said.

I think most stainless matches to a degree. I don't think i've ever looked at pictures and thought "they don't match". What does seem to make a slight difference is making sure you have somewhat matching handles ... but even then.

As long as you don't have SS and mixing Samsung's dark SS. That still would work anyways, to me.

As an example, we're going with Therm range cooktop, single wall oven, Bosch speed oven in island (due to kitchen restrictions - i'm fine with this anyways), Electrolux Icon all fridge/freezer combo and Therm dishwasher. So it's kind of a range of appliances ... but it's gonna work out!

as for your specifics, I don't have any of it but I do have some comments:

- from what i've read lately, the island cooktop, downdraft and blower sounds like a great idea and looks awesome but it's wrought with potential issues. Have you really thought through the concept fully?

- why electric but not induction?

- I went speed oven because I personally don't like the look of microwave with trim kit to vent ... that's me. If I need my panny mw I can whip it out temporarily and then store it afterwards.

- if everything is installed well your kitchen will look awesome ... I think a kitchen that's not planned out well and installed well will be questionable - even if it's filled with high end stuff.
