YIKES!!!!!

Oh man. My nightmare. We bought a small retirement home in Florida last year and somehow I heard about rats and snakes that can get in toilets in those tropical places. I made the mistake of checking on you tube :(( I always turn on the light and look before making those middle of the night bathroom visits. My cousin said they had a rat in the toilet in her (very nice) Florida condo. They get in where a sewer pipe has slipped or broken. My daughter lives near our winter home She mentioned yesterday that she had closed the toilet lids for me--her husband is a plumber and that is what he advises. I just left there Tuesday and didn't think to close the lids :-0

And this is why I always turn on the light and look before sitting! Geeze, I'd have a heart attack if I saw that. And with our slow closing lids, I couldn't even slam it down! Ack, this is nightmare.

I would have a heart attack too! I asked her what they did. He kicked the toilet and the snake went back down in the pipe. So he slammed it closed. I always have the light on in my bathroom at night now I am going to keep the lid closed.

It looks well fed. I'm guessing no mice OR rats on the property. I like snakes....I feel like they're looking out for me. Mice carry fleas.....fleas carry bubonic plague.....

OMG. I'd have left the property immediately, after securing the lid. Duct tape use #162 ;)

I've read where that's possible but I didn't know anyone it had happened to. Can you tell I've always lived in a part of the country with nothing but harmless garden snakes?

An elderly neighbor told me she had found a rat, drowned, in a seldom used bathroom toilet, lid down, once. I never knew if the story was accurate or not.

Yow!! But even if you close the lid there is a space between the seat and the base of the seat.....

I'd have a heart attack too. I have one of those handicapped seats over my toilet so there is no way to put down a lid. I'll keep pouring toilet bowl cleaners in there in the hopes that would poison any snake that might try to venture up the pipes.

Yikes! How scary! I once lifted the lid on a little used toilet in the upstairs of my old house. There was a large, dead bird inside. Scared the crap out of me - I can't imagine a poisonous snake!

Oh geez. Now I have to go tape down the toilet seats & lids!!

OMG how does that even happen? You see it in the movies but seriously, how would it get in there? YIKES!

We do not have any idea how it got in there. I guess some where from the septic tank to the toilet plumbing there is a crack that a snake can squeeze through. It does not take a very big crack for a snake. I guarantee you there are no mice in the toilet lol. The house is on a hill in Oklahoma no creeks, there is water in the toilet it's just hard it see it what with the giant snake getting your attention! Oh yes it is alive he took a video of it. I can try to post it. No one is living in the house right now but they check on it daily they live nearby. My suggestion was to get a gallon of muriatic acid for pools and fill the toilet with it. I once killed one at one of our houses. We will have exterminators de snaking the place! We are going to have the septic system drained and the pipes checked!

OMG! I hate snakes and mice/rats! I know snakes are good for getting rid of the mice and rats, but.......... Nightmares! Thank goodness it wasn't one of the kids who found it.

From orig pic, snake looks stuck. Was it alive? If yes, it couldn't have been there long though I guess it could have gone dormant in order to survive.

It's very alive. I have a video he took too besides the picture. When he kicked on the toilet it went back down the pipe. I don't think it's stuck. It is very active and it's huge so it's been eating something. They hhave used the toilet on occasion when over there working on the house or getting mail etc there is someone that goes in the house daily just no one living in the house. Our niece told us a few months ago she saw a really big water moccasin in the yard. We assumed it was after field mice or rats. This is a farm house on several Acres. The barn was torn down long ago. My husband told me that on the neighbors property there is a small creek it's quite a ways from this house. I guess snakes go looking for water and food. He found the water! Does aanyone know how to post a little phone video to here? It won't post using the picture option and the video option needs a link address.

I hhad not thought of snakes in the toilet but it would be much easier to get up an rv plumbing system! We never leave our hoses connected, just hook it up to dump. But leaving the hose connected only to the rv side a snake could crawl up in the hose. But the saving grace is that an rv toilet has a closed bowl you have to push the foot flusher to open the bottom of the bowl and flush it.

We are rreplacing that toilet with one of the one's we have here. I don't know who will take the job of removing the toilet lol I can see it now all the men in the little bathroom heavily armed!

the reason I'm asking so many questions is we have acreage in east TX, near a creek. we haven't seen water moc. in a couple of years, but years ago one did bite our black Labrador. Additionally, one day I was cleaning the bathroom and notice what seemed liked a candy wrapper. I thought It was something the doggies had dragged from the nearby trash can, when, upon closer inspection, I discovered it was a shed snake skin. Talking about freak out! It wasn't very big, but it was in the bathroom, and could have slithered around thru plumbing. We looked and looked for it, but have never found anything.

In your case, I don't envy the lucky person that will get to do toilet removal duty. I would imagine pest control people or a herpetologist can probably figure out a way to do it.

Raven, you can leave the hose connected to the sewer at a full hook up site. Just don't open the dump valve on the RV until ready to empty your tanks. Fill the black water tank with water before dumping if it isn't already full, then open the valve. It will empty better this way. It flushes the tank out better. And that amount of water would flush the snake back down out of the hose.

I do not envy whoever has the task of changing that toilet!

You're talking muriatic acid ... and a septic system? They don't go very well together, do they?

As for the constipation being cured ... are you sure? On the other hand ... I wonder whether it wouldn't cause a new case of it?

Well there's a serious problem with the septic system already lol. I don't think a dose of the acid is going to be much worse. We have been planning to get it worked on it has had problems for years and they kept putting it off. Now seems like a good time! I will be here in Houston when that happens!

The snake may have come from the septic system itself. Scary!
