Poll- Most useless gardening product
Comments (21)I can imagine what they will do when it's 105 outside with the sun beating down on them!!! I don't need my tree roots cooked, thank you! How deep do you expect that effect to be, though? They'll raise the temp at day but not at night, so the area should cool off, and thus your penetration depth should be no deeper than the distance heat can propagate through soil in ~12 hours. 3-6 inches down, I'd expect it to make practically no difference. Also, in March, you have no leaves on your trees; in the summer, it'll be mostly shaded unless your tree is very young. I'd call most "rabbit fencing" in its raw form worthless. Too short even if you have it sitting right at the surface to stop them from jumping over, and you have to go underground to stop them from digging. Oh, and those little 10' extender hoses you can get at Menards. I've had two rupture in two years. One ruptured in just two or three weeks -- without a frost!...See MoreWhat are your most useful appliances in outdoor kitchen
Comments (0)We are in the design stages for our outdoor grilling area. What are the appliances and amenities that you just can't live without? We are considering including the following: grill, burner, ice compartment, 2 drawers, and a frig. I want electrical outlets for blenders. Our design is currently a split level height area with counter height seating all along the cooking & prep areas. We are also wanting to incorporate a lower fire pit seating area at the end of the entire structure. Any thoughts?...See MoreWhat's the Oldest Kitchen Utensile in Your Kitchen?
Comments (48)Hmm, I am not "first owner" of anything too old. A French Press I've had since about 1980, is the oldest thing I suppose. As far as "previously owned" stuff, I use a slicer that my father-in-law used when he was a butcher shortly after WW2. It is about 18" long, slim flexible carbon steel, gets very sharp, I think of him when I take it out....See MoreKitchen Utensils
Comments (19)in my small kitchen, I now have a 9" cabinet by the stove; the drawer holds all the stuff that WAS in the crock; the bottom holds the griddle, tater-tots pan, grill pan, and broiler. That little drawer has forced me to ditch most of my other stove-top utensils. I really only need 6, but I think I have 8: 2 flat flipping spatulas, 2 wooden spoons, 2 tongs, 1 pasta claw (used for serving, but this is the only place it fits), 1 ladle (ditto). I'm lucky; there's also a drawer near the main prep space, so I use it for the prep utensils and other non-stove utensils: measuring spoons, ice cream scoop, small paring knives, etc. And on the other end of the kitchen (it's not THAT big), there's a drawer that holds all the baking utensils. I really am glad I pared WAY down on the stovetop utensils! And I'm glad they're not in a crock anymore. It looked messy enough, but WAS even messier--all the stuff kept getting coated w/ grease, etc....See MoreJ K
